I transform letters into layered figures, turning language into matter, memory and identity on glossy metal panels. Senza parole: il nulla. With words: infinity.

My artistic research stems from a simple and radical question: what would the world be without words? In the silence of the world, everything exists because it can be expressed. Without words: nothingness.

From a distance, a body. Up close, thousands of letters.

In this work from the ANATOMIES series, the figure emerges from black in a curled, inward pose, almost suspended between protection and exposure.

The letters do not describe the body. They construct it.

They accumulate and overlap, becoming skin, memory, and fragility. Silver crosses the lower part of the work like a threshold: it may appear as matter, silence, erasure, or a new beginning.

As you move closer, the body dissolves into the chaos of signs.
As you step back, it regains its presence.

Perhaps we are like this too: apparently defined identities, yet composed of words we have heard, wounds, desires, and fragments that continue to transform us.

What did you see first: the body, the letters, or the silence surrounding it?

Write it in the comments.

Black is not a background.

In my collections, it becomes an active space of silence, depth and potential.

The figures are not simply placed upon a dark surface. They emerge through the density of the letters, the light reflected by the metal panel, and the distance from which the work is observed.

The body remains suspended between appearance and dissolution.

Because no image can ever fully contain a person.
When you look at an artwork, how much attention do you give to the space from which the figure emerges?

"Disobedient Identity"

Everyone follows the same direction.
One figure chooses differently.

Red becomes the colour of identity, independence and the courage to leave the safety of the crowd.

Because being yourself is not always comfortable. Sometimes it means accepting uncertainty, standing apart and choosing your own path—even when everyone else is moving the other way.

And you: would you have the courage to go against the current?

CHriZ is an Italian contemporary artist who constructs images from letters.

His artistic research was born amid the scent of ink, the weight of movable type, and the living materiality of his family’s old printing workshop. Before becoming signs to be read, letters appeared to him as forms, presences, and primordial fragments capable of preserving memory and identity.

Applied one by one onto metal panels, they accumulate, overlap, and gradually transform into faces, bodies, and emotional traces. Seen up close, the work is a dense and restless chaos. From a distance, an unexpected order emerges.

Porto con me ogni sguardo, ogni parola e ogni momento vissuto insieme.
Grazie per esserci stati.

Genomism: When the Letter Becomes Visual DNA

At the foundation of my artistic research lies a question: can a single letter contain the origin of an image?

From this reflection comes the term Genomism, which I use to define the language running through my work.

The reference to the genome is intentional. Just as DNA contains the information required to construct an organism, each letter represents, for me, a primary particle: a minimal element capable of generating forms, identities, and presences.

Time passes.
It moves through the body, changes faces, consumes forms.
But there is something that remains beyond matter, beyond the instant, beyond the end: our soul.

It transforms, it stratifies, carrying with it memories, wounds, desires, silences.
The body fades, but what we truly are continues to leave traces.

Because time may touch the surface, but it cannot erase the essence.

Can 80 hours of work describe the experiences of a lifetime?

Perhaps not.
But they can try to hold onto what remains: words heard, thoughts never spoken, wounds, encounters, desires, memories.

Each letter has been applied one by one, like a fragment of identity.
From a distance, a face appears.
Up close, a constellation of signs.

Because we are not made only of images.
We are made of words, silences, and invisible layers.

Costruire il silenzio, lettera dopo lettera. 🖤

Stay tuned!
