What We Learn When Systems Fail: Alternative Models of Knowing and Curating

This three-day symposium explores alternative models of education and knowledge production in times of political challenges and socially critical conditions, with a particular focus on Iran. Challenging the constraints of formal education systems, the event investigates the potential of independent institutions, curatorial practices, and artistic research as critical pedagogical tools and sites of resistance. Topics include revolutionary and feminist approaches to learning; the role of collective and community-based practices in generating knowledge; the pitfalls of “presentism” in contemporary art discourse; and the current crisis of curating as both a practice and an institutional framework. Through presentations, discussions, film screening, and a book launch, the symposium brings together an international group of practitioners, scholars, artists, and educators to reflect on the potential of discursive, socially engaged, and context-responsive approaches to learning.
In this regard, Fereshte Moosavi, curator of the Tehran Curatorial Symposium, has invited the following practitioners, researchers, and educators to share their perspectives through talks and discussions.

«تمرکز​ بر تکنینیک‌ها و روش‌ها در کیوریتینگ»

نزدیک یک دهه است که المیرا میرمیران دوره آموزشی و کارگاهی چاپ دستی را در همکاری با چارسو‌ی هنر برگزار می‌کند و در این راستا چندین نمایشگاه گروهی از هنرجویان این دوره‌ برگزار کرده است. در این سمپوزیوم میرمیران مراحل مختلف ترتیب دادن نمایشگاه از آموزش و تولید کارها تا جمع آوری و چیدمان را با ما درمیان گذاشت و جنبه های پیچیده‌ی رابطه آموزش و کیوریتینگ را بررسی کردیم.

گلنوش حشمتی:
«نگاهی به شیوه‌های همکاری: تجربیاتی در کیوریت کردن جمعی»

پروژه های کیوریتوریال گلنوش حشمتی که به تلاقی بین نقش کیوریتورها و هنرمندان علاقه‌مند است، مفاهیم سنتی نمایشگاه سازی را به هم می‌ریزد. حشمتی در این دوره از سمپوزیوم٬ با تمرکز بر قالب مشارکتی به عنوان شیوه‌ای از تولید هنری و کیوریتوریال٬ تجربه‌های خود را هم به عنوان عضوی از کالکتیو گپس و هم کیوریتور مستقل مطرح کرد.

گروه گپس همزمان با برگزاری دوره پیشین سمپوزیم کیوریتوریال تهران٬ نمایشگاهی را با عنوان «ولی ما دیگر اهرامی بر جای نمی گذاریم» کیوریت کرد.

Golnoosh Heshmati
“Looking at Collaborative Methods: Experiences in Collective Curating”

Interested in the crossover between the role of curators and artists, Golnoosh Heshmati’s curatorial projects trouble the traditional conceptions of exhibition-making. While focusing on the collaborative format as a mode of artistic and curatorial productions, Heshmati discussed her experiences of collective curating both as a member of the GAPS collective and an independent curator.

GAPS curated the exhibition of But We Don’t Leave Pyramids in conjunction with the last edition of Tehran Curatorial Symposium.

:فؤاد فراهانی
«کیوریتوری شکل‌های بیانی متنوع در سیستمی آزاد»

در نگاه فؤاد فراهانی بیان هنری قالبی میان-رشته‌ای و چند‌وجهی دارد. او با پیش زمینه‌ی پژوهشی خود در بررسی رابطه‌ی بین ادراکات و محیط٬ پروژه‌ی چند دوره‌ای کیوریتوریال «کتاب هنرمندان» را در «سمپوزیوم کیوریتوریال تهران» ارائه و بررسی کرد. با مرور کردن نمایشگاه‌های پیشین او می توان گفت فرم غالب در کار کیوریتوری فراهانی پرفورماتیو, پژوهش محور و مبتنی بر آرشیو که در همکاری دوسویه با هنرمندان شکل گرفته‌ است.

Artistic expression in F**d Farahani’s view has a multidisciplinary and multidimensional format. With a background in researching the relationship between perception and environment, Farahani presented the “Artists’ Book” -a periodic curatorial project- at this series of the Tehran Curatorial Symposium. Going over his previous exhibitions one could say that the major curatorial form in Farahani’s practice is performative, research-based and relies on archives that are created in a reciprocal relationship with the artists.

بازاندیشی در چرایی انتخاب ها: بینابینیت

استفاده از مفاهیم و واژه‌ها برای ایجاد تامل و درنگ بیشتر در فهم آثار هنری می‌تواند به عنوان یک استراتژی در کیوریتینگ بکار گرفته شود. حمید سوری در این دوره از سمپوزیوم کیوریتوریال تهران با تاکید بر اهمیت "بازاندیشی" و "تامل" در خلق و مواجهه با آثار هنری به بررسی چرایی انتخاب واژه "بینابینیت" در پروژه نمایشگاهی خود پرداخت.

Rethinking the reasons of choices: In-betweenness

Employing terms and concepts as a thought-provoking tool to reflect on and better connect with artworks, could be taken as a curatorial strategy. In this series of Tehran Curatorial Symposium Hmaid Severi discussed his use of the term “in betweenness” in his exhibiting project. این دوره از سمپوزیوم کیوریتوریال تهران را با نگاهی به پروژه های چند وجهی امیرعلی قاسمی شروع کردیم. با اشاره به مقاله اخیرش "ویدیو به‌عنوان یک رسانه هنری در ایران از اواخر دهه‌ی شصت تا نیمه‌ی دهه‌ی هشتاد شمسی…" قاسمی به مرور پروژه هایش از شکل گیری پارکینگ گالری تا جامعه نیومدیا پرداخت و ما را با ابعاد پیچیده .
