Jenny Kroik is a New York City-based painter and illustrator. She finds much of her inspiration in the city and its people. Jenny has a BFA in illustration from the Art Institute of Boston, and an MFA in painting from the Uni versity of Oregon. Kroik has created 3 covers for the New Yorker Magazine. Her other clients include the Washington Post, The LA times, Random House Publishing Group and more. Jenny also teaches art at various universities and art centers around the city.

1) What led you to become an illustrator? I love drawing and telling stories. I wasn’t sure what
“illustration” was when I was young,
and when I was picking my major in college I looked at
the student work at the illustration
department, and felt a connection. I also studied fine art, and I see connections between all art forms. What I love about illustration is to have my work reproduced and have it serve a purpose, like accompanying a text etc.

2) What challenges did you have in this job? It’s an ever-changing field, so the biggest challenge is figuring out where the work is. Illustrators are constantly searching to see where illustration is going, and there are many times where it’s hard to know what to do next!

WATER ELEMENT. MYTHOLOGICAL DEITIES OF WATER

Water is the essential element for life and a key pillar of all human cultures. In almost all cultures, water is perceived as a female element and this gender key is shared with our planet Earth, the only known one covered mostly with water.

In most of the world's creation myths, water represents the source of life, energy and divine fertility of the earth and living beings.

It also charges water with great significance within the various religions as they use it in initiation or baptismal rites. Within this context, it encompasses the meanings of purification, renewal, fertility, liberation and abundance.

The human being projects into the water the realization of his fears, but also of his hopes, the promise of life and the threat of death.

We are going to undertake a journey through the continents and their seven seas to get to know the different deities and myths that arise around water.

Sonia Alins is an illustrator and artist focused on the creation of artworks where drawing goes beyond two dimensions, with collages made of transparent layers and other materials that find inspiration in Yves Klein’s art and the three-dimensional pieces of Joseph Cornell. With an artistic personality halfway between Surrealism and Romanticism, the protagonists in Sonia’s work are almost exclusively women. They connect us with the feminine iconography of the Romantic era, like Ingres’ odalisques or John Everett Millais’ Ophelia, the Art Déco movement (Tamara de Lempicka) or Gustav Klimt’s symbolism. Sonia’s work has been published in the U.S., Japan, Italy, Scotland or Germany, and has been awarded in several international competitions. To name a few, two Gold Medals from Le Salon des Beaux Arts 2017 (SNBA, France), an Award of Excellence from the Communication Arts Illustration Annual 2019 (U.S.), and a Gold Award from the Global Illustration Award 2018 (Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany).

My name is Onur Ayboğa.
I am an Illustrator and 2D Game artist based in İstanbul -Turkey.

I graduated from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Design in 2010.

After graduate i have gain experience in many design agencies.
I draw professionally for children's books since 2019.

Nowadays I'm also working on my first picture book as an author/illustrator. I hope that I can share the concrete document of this adventure with all people.

In the present article we are going to unite, through fire, two stories separated in time. On the one hand, we unite the story of Cinderella, one of the most famous fairy tales in the world. On the other hand, we join the vestal virgins of Ancient Rome, very important and representative female figures of this great empire.
Cinderella.

Cinderella is one of the oldest fairy tales in the oral tradition. It is also a tale that has been developed in very different parts of the world from Egypt, China, India and Europe. In 1893, the author MR Cox collected a total of 345 variants of this story, although it is estimated that there are currently around seven hundred versions.

In this article we will focus on Giambattista Basile’s version, Cinderella’s Cat published in Lo cunto de li cunti also known as The Pentameron, in 1634.
