They say knowing what not to do is half the way to success, and in the financial world, this couldn't be truer. Our markets are filled with enticing schemes and frauds that lure investors, especially the young, with promises of quick riches. Sadly, many end up losing their hard-earned savings.

I say no to F&O trading in our PMS strategy. But I didn't stop there. Wherever I go, I always try to convince people to avoid F&O trading if they're involved in it. I'm happy to say I've successfully shifted many investors' mindsets from a short-term to a long-term approach. Now they're investing in equities with more than a 10-year horizon in mind.

It's not easy to say no to quick gains, but it's worth it in the long run. I'm so grateful to my mentor who pointed me in the right direction from day one. At 28, I can proudly say I've won half the battle. I've learned what not to do, and that's a big step towards success in the financial world.

Recent data shows a stark reality: "93% of over 1 crore individual F&O traders incurred average losses of around Rs 2 lakh per trader from FY22 to FY24." This breaks my heart.

To every non-professional F&O trader out there, I'm reminded of a line from the movie Munna Bhai MBBS: "बेटा, तुम जिस राह पे चल रहें होंना, एक दिन बुरे फ़सोगे.”
