Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami of the Indian Army lost his life during an anti-terrxr operation in the Rajouri sector of Jammu & Kashmir. The young officer was part of an ongoing counter-terrxr mission when he reportedly fell into a deep gorge while operating in the region’s challenging mountainous terrain.

The incident occurred during Operation Sherawali, a counter-terrxr operation being conducted in the area. Lt. Goswami was moving along a narrow ridge when he lost his footing and fell into the gorge. Rescue teams were immediately deployed and efforts were made to evacuate him and provide medical assistance. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

The operation was being carried out in a difficult and rugged area known for its steep slopes and dense forest cover, which often pose significant challenges to security forces conducting counter-terrxr missions.

The Indian Army paid tribute to the fallen officer, honouring his dedication, courage and commitment to duty. Senior military officials and fellow soldiers expressed their condolences, remembering Lt. Goswami’s service to the nation.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Indian Air Force, has concluded a three-day official visit to France aimed at strengthening bilateral defence and aerospace cooperation between India and France.

During the visit, Air Chief Marshal Singh held bilateral discussions with General Jérôme Bellanger, Chief of Staff of the French Air and Space Force (AAEF), at the AAEF Headquarters in Balard. He was accorded military honours and received a ceremonial guard of honour upon his arrival.

The IAF Chief also met General Vincent Giraud, Chief of the Military Staff to the President of the French Republic, and interacted with officers and Indian officer cadets participating in exchange programmes at the École de guerre, École Militaire.

As part of the operational engagements, Air Chief Marshal Singh visited the Mont-de-Marsan Air Combat Centre, one of France’s premier combat aviation facilities, and undertook a familiarisation flight aboard an Airbus A400M military transport aircraft from Orléans Air Base.

The visit also included meetings with senior representatives of major French defence and aerospace firms, including Dassault Aviation, Thales, Safran and MBDA. Discussions focused on enhancing defence-industrial cooperation and supporting India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ambitions under the Make in India initiative.

The visit reaffirmed the longstanding strategic partnership between India and France and highlighted the growing cooperation between the Indian Air Force and the French Air and Space Force in the fields of operations, training, technology and defence industry collaboration.

Rolls-Royce has offered to co-develop a next-generation fighter jet engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, along with full technology transfer and intellectual property rights. The proposal is aimed at supporting the AMCA Mk2, the more advanced variant of India’s indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter currently under development.

According to reports, Rolls-Royce has proposed developing a completely new engine in partnership with India rather than offering a modified version of an existing design. The company has also expressed its willingness to transfer critical technologies and enable India to acquire significant design, development, manufacturing, and upgrade capabilities for future engine programmes.

The proposal comes as India seeks a high-thrust engine in the 110–130 kN class to power the AMCA Mk2. Developing such an engine remains one of the most challenging aspects of the programme and is considered crucial for achieving greater self-reliance in advanced aerospace technologies.

Rolls-Royce has further indicated its interest in establishing a broader aero-engine ecosystem in India, supporting indigenous research, manufacturing, testing, and long-term capability development. The company believes such collaboration could strengthen India’s domestic aerospace industry while providing the technological foundation for future combat aircraft programmes.

The British engine manufacturer is among several international contenders competing for India’s AMCA engine programme. France’s Safran has also expressed interest in partnering with India, and the final decision on the engine partner is yet to be announced by the Government of India.

If accepted, the proposal could mark a significant step in India’s efforts to develop indigenous military aviation technologies and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers for advanced fighter aircraft engines.

Amit Singh Rana, a Marine Commando (MARCOS) of the Indian Navy and recipient of the prestigious Shaurya Chakra, passed away in a road accident on June 1, according to reports.

In Operation Shok Baba, he volunteered to advance towards a heavily fortified txrrorist hideout under intense enemy fire and successfully placed an improvised ex”plosive device (IED), leading to the destruction of the position and the elimination of three txrrorists.

The Indian Army has initiated court martial proceedings against a Major General and around 20 other officers in connection with the alleged recruitment scam at the Service Selection Centre (SSB), Kapurthala. The action follows a long-running investigation into allegations of bribery and irregularities in the officer selection process.

According to reports, the scam first came to light in 2021 after a Military Intelligence probe uncovered evidence of Army personnel allegedly accepting illegal gratification from candidates seeking entry into the Armed Forces. The Army subsequently referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed investigation.

Investigators alleged that candidates who had been temporarily rejected on medical grounds were approached through a network of serving personnel, retired officers and civilian intermediaries. In exchange for bribes ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹10 lakh, these candidates were allegedly fraudulently cleared by Review Medical Boards. Some payments were reportedly traced through bank accounts and UPI transactions linked to relatives of the accused.

The CBI named 23 accused in its FIR and conducted searches at nearly 30 locations across India. With court martial proceedings now underway, the Army has signalled a strong stance against corruption and malpractice within its recruitment system.
