दूरसंचार कंपनी एयरटेल ने 'एयरटेल ज़ीरो' को लेकर 'नेट न्यूट्रैलिटी' के आधार पर शुरू हुई बहस को 'असंबद्ध' करार दिया है और कहा है कि यह पेशकश ग्राहकों को मोबाइल ऐप की नि:शुल्क पहुंच उपलब्ध कराने के लिए की गई है। एयरटेल ने इसी सप्ताह 'एयरटेल ज़ीरो' नामक नया मार्केटिंग प्लेटफॉर्म पेश करने की घोषणा की थी, जिसके जरिये ग्राहक अनेक मोबाइल ऐप का नि:शुल्क लाभ उठा सकते हैं, क्योंकि डेटा शुल्क का भुगतान संबद्ध ऐप कंपनियां करेंगी।

मोबाइल सर्विस प्रोवाइडर एयरटेल और ई-रीटेलर ऐप फ्लिपकार्ट के बीच एक नए प्रोग्राम 'एयरटेल ज़ीरो' के लिए हुई कथित डील को लेकर यूज़र फ्लिपकार्ट को ज़ोरदार तरीके से कोसते हुए उस पर 'नेट न्यूट्रैलिटी' खत्म करने का आरोप लगा रहे हैं, और उसका साथ छोड़कर जा रहे हैं।
नेट न्यूट्रैलिटी (इंटरनेट तटस्थता) वह सिद्धांत है, जिसके तहत माना जाता है कि इंटरनेट सर्विस प्रदान करने वाली कंपनियां इंटरनेट पर हर तरह के डाटा को एक जैसा दर्जा देंगी। दरअसल, इंटरनेट पर की जाने वाली फोन कॉल्स के लिए टेलीकॉम कंपनियां अलग कीमतें तय करने की कोशिश कर चुकी हैं और वे इसके लिए वेब सर्फिंग से ज़्यादा दर पर वसूली करना चाहती थीं। इसके बाद टेलीकॉम नियामक एजेंसी 'ट्राई' ने आम लोगों से 'नेट न्यूट्रैलिटी' या 'नेट तटस्थता' पर राय मांगी है।

Many major Internet application companies are advocates of neutrality. Yahoo!, Vonage, eBay, Amazon, IAC/InterActiveCorp. Microsoft, Twitter, Tumblr, Etsy, Daily Kos, Greenpeace, along with many other companies and organizations, have also taken a stance in support of net neutrality.
