When he finally
breaks my heart
like a fragile light bulb,
make it a point to
break it further, into
a thousand pieces to
blow them into the
sky when the sun
is forced to bid
adieu to its only
need, the ocean.
And when that
happens, forget
not to bury deep
the tiny vestiges
into the ground
where the dead
exchange stories
of heartbreak and
eternal miseries
with the roots
of mighty trees
in hushed voices.
Let the pieces
soak in the hatred
altered in disguise
and then when that
finally happens, let
them revive, regrow
from every inch of
the land that holds
testimony to the
pain endured by its
children in the name
of divine and love
because the human
memory is transient
and history is bound
to repeat itself.
