Greetings from SPE MIT-WPU Student Chapter!!

We’re back with the latest edition of our weekly news series ENERGY INSIGHTS!

This week’s spotlight is on India’s oil marketing companies (OMCs), which are projected to see a *significant surge in operating profit—over 50% in FY26*, according to Crisil Ratings. This sharp rise will be driven primarily by stronger marketing margins on petrol and diesel, supported by stable retail prices and favourable crude dynamics, even as refining margins are expected to moderate.

Crisil estimates that OMCs could generate ₹75,000–80,000 crore in cash accruals, enabling them to comfortably fund their ₹90,000 crore capex plans, focused on refinery expansions, fuel infrastructure upgrades, and clean energy investments. With stronger profitability and improved cash flows, the sector’s financial health is set to strengthen, enhancing India’s fuel supply stability and energy resilience.

Stay tuned every Monday for more key updates and insights from the global energy sector!

Greetings from SPE MIT-WPU Student Chapter!!!

We’re back with the latest edition of our weekly news series – ENERGY INSIGHTS!

This week’s spotlight is on India’s renewed push for major hydrocarbon discoveries to meet its growing energy demands. Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain emphasized that while renewable energy is expanding rapidly, oil and gas will remain crucial for India’s energy security in the coming decades. Speaking at the 15th Biennial Conference of the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists, he highlighted the need for large-scale discoveries, not just incremental ones, to reduce dependence on crude imports and ensure long-term economic resilience.

Under the National Deepwater Mission, India plans to intensify exploration in frontier, deepwater, and ultra-deepwater basins using advanced seismic technologies, AI-driven geophysical mapping, and policy frameworks like HELP and OALP that encourage private and global investment. Industry leaders from ONGC and Oil India echoed this vision, reaffirming that tapping into India’s unexplored sedimentary basins could transform its energy landscape.

Stay tuned every Monday for more key developments and insights from the energy sector!
