The Western Routes
Cultural Tours | Wildlife Tours | Heritage Trails | Heritage Walks | Food Walks | Culinary Tours The Western Routes was founded in 2011.
It started as a concept that found its roots in the love for the state of Maharashtra and its native culture. Since 2015, we have ventured into curating itineraries across the country which are themed around history, culture, wildlife or food. We are determined to provide an experience of India, free of cliches and bias; an experience encompassing the warmth, beauty and culture which our country has to offer.

Umred impressed as it always does. The tiger sightings were incredible as usual. We saw 5 individual tigers most of them fully grown cubs. Heartening to see that these tigresses and cubs are thriving in a small area in Central India. Along with tigers we had some great sightings of wild dogs, Indian gaurs, spotted deers, nilgai and a variety of birds! Our safari experience was elevated further with quick snack breaks for mahua flowers and ripe charoli fruits!
We stayed at the amazing in Karhandla and most of our birding happened on the property! The place is beautiful, delicious food and impeccable service. Our safaris and safari management was done by

Uncharted Konkan Lands - Sindhudurg
Two incredible batches for this unforgettable Konkan journey! 🌊
Our Uncharted Konkan Lands tours in December and February brought together two amazing groups, and the vibe was equally magical in both! We took advantage of the direct flight to Sindhudurg from Pune, thanks to Fly91. Started our journey with the serene shores of Bhogawe and Devbaug. We soaked in the beauty of the beaches, cruised through the backwaters of the Karli river and Devbaug sangam, and experienced the crystal-clear waters of Tarkarli Beach. The royal charm of Sawantwadi Palace and the vibrant traditional Chitrakathi art at Pinguli near Kudal added a cultural touch to our journey. With the historic grandeur of the Sindhudurg Fort, every moment on the tour felt like a perfect blend of nature, culture, and history!
We spent a day understanding the ecology of Dhamapur Lake and the sustainable practices the villagers are involved in. This was thanks to Konkan Routes!
Our stay at Maachli Homestay with the warm and welcoming Samant family made the experience even more special. From homely meals to heartfelt hospitality, it truly felt like a home away from home.
And then came the highlight for every foodie ❤️
The incredible cuisine of Sindhudurg stole the show with its bold spices and coastal flavours. Think freshly caught seafood, crispy bombil fry, fragrant fish curries infused with coconut, solkadhi that refreshes your soul, and those perfectly spiced kombdi vade. Can't miss mentioning the ukadiche modak, ras shirvalya and kharwas. Every meal was a celebration of local ingredients and age-old recipes that left everyone asking for seconds!
Looking forward to many more such journeys to Konkan!

Countless memories on our Mesmerizing Madhya Pradesh tour in February!
Our group of 25 set out with .local.epicurean on a journey through the heart of Madhya Pradesh covering 4 iconic destinations - Indore, Mandu, Maheshwar & Ujjain
Indore welcomed us with open arms and endless flavours—late-night food trails at Sarafa, street food exploration at 56 Dukaan, crispy poha-jalebi breakfasts, and chaat that kept us going back for more. A true paradise for food lover!
At Mandu, history came alive as we wandered through grand Jahaz Mahal, Jami Masjid and Hoshang Shah Tomb. Javed, our guide narrated eneless love stories etched in stone at the Baaz Bahadur Palace and Rani Roopmati Pavillion.
Maheshwar slowed us down in the most beautiful way— boat rides on the Narmada river, the serene charm of Ahilya Fort, and the gentle rhythm of the river made it pure magic.
And in Ujjain, spirituality took over as we soaked in the divine energy at the Mahakaleshwar Temple!
From food trails to heritage walks, riverside serenity to soulful moments—this wasn’t just a trip, it was an experience woven together by amazing souls.

15 explorers. One unforgettable journey. ✨
February 2026 took us deep into the surreal landscapes of Kutch — from the timeless ruins of Dholavira to the endless white salt desert of the Rann of Kutch, and the wild, untamed beauty of the Little Rann of Kutch.
We wandered through the vibrant streets of Bhuj, soaked in centuries of history, spotted wildlife in the vast salt marshes, and stood in awe as the Rann shimmered under the open sky.
This wasn’t just a trip — it was a shared experience of stories, laughter, sunsets, and new friendships.
Here’s to slow travel, curious souls, and journeys that stay with you long after they end. ❤️
