Cryptocurrency Litecoin saw a sudden surge in price on Monday over a press release about Walmart accepting it for payment - which turned out to be fake.
The release, published through a legitimate press channel, claimed that Walmart would accept the currency through all its digital stores.
Walmart later told US media outlets the announcement was "inauthentic".

El Salvador bought 400 bitcoin worth about $20.9 million, one day before it formally adopts the world’s most popular cryptocurrency as legal tender.
The announcement came as El Salvador’s bitcoin law, which was passed in June, took effect on Tuesday.
El Salvador has launched a wallet app called Chivo which citizens can sign up to with a national ID in order to transact using Bitcoin.com.

Self-catered accommodation in the UK is costing on average 40% more than in the summer of 2019, according to consumer group Which?.
Its analysis, with BBC Panorama, suggests holidaymakers are paying an average of £300 more per week in August compared to before the pandemic.
The data is from AirDNA, which monitors websites such as Airbnb and Vrbo.

sweetgreen has bought Spyce, a Boston restaurant company that made a name for itself with its automated kitchen. The deal could make Sweetgreen more attractive to investors as it seeks to enter the public markets through an initial public offering.
Since its founding in 2015, Spyce has raised $24.88 million from investors, including famed chef Daniel Boulud, according to PitchBook Data.

A BMW Group project centered around the development of a long-distance electric vehicle battery has been awarded £26.2 million ($36.07 million) in joint funding from industry and the U.K. government.
The Oxford-based project, called BMW-UK-BEV, is one of four to receive funding via the Advanced Propulsion Centre Collaborative Research and Development competition.
