I've made a lot of mistakes from the start till now. Each one taught me something valuable and shaped my path. Don’t miss No.4, it’s for YOU!
Here are 5 tips I'd give my younger self.
1. Trust your gut:
Trust your instincts. Advice can help, but your gut knows best. Even if everything looks perfect, only YOU know well enough to judge the situation. Trust it.
2. Network, even if you're introverted:
Don't underestimate networking. Real relationships can open doors you never imagined. BNI (Business Network International) was my best investment for networking. Even if you're connected with overseas people, you’ll grow in your hometown and state first. You can’t ignore this fact. So, interact with people who are far ahead of you in knowledge and experience. It takes you out of your comfort zone and allows you to learn and explore.
3. Keep upskilling:
Keep learning and stay curious. Business changes constantly, so staying updated gives you an edge. Domain knowledge is key to exposure. Getting content isn't the hard part, using it wisely is. Upskill yourself, join good networking groups, make friends in different and same domains, and ask for help when stuck.
4. Take risks:
But calculated ones. Playing safe keeps you afloat, but bold moves push you higher than you’d reach otherwise. I played it safe at first, but taking risks is compulsory. Write down every step. Make a SWOT. If you're ready for the worst-case scenario, go for it! It's tried and tested. Works!
5. Balance work and personal life:
Balancing work with self-care is key. Burnout is real and breaks refresh your creativity and passion for work. I’m a workaholic, but I set boundaries. No office affairs on Saturday or Sunday, unless urgent. I do yoga and meditation when exhausted. I used to neglect myself, but now I give space to live with happy vibes, which only come with a fresh mind.
Set clear goals and stay adaptable. Success isn’t a straight path; flexibility helps handle unexpected challenges.
Surround yourself with a supportive team sharing your vision and values. Their support is priceless in tough times.
Seek mentors. Learning from those who've been there saves you a lot of trouble.
Keep a positive mindset and don’t let failures bring you down. Every setback is a chance to learn and grow.
Celebrate your achievements, even the small ones. Recognizing progress boosts morale and keeps you motivated.
