Stories from the field 💌

What helps us reach a place without asking someone? 🤔
In a recent library session at Varitra library, when children walked into their library, they didn’t just see bookshelves, they explored the art of observing
Gathering in small groups, our children created their own library maps 🗺️🗺️
One map highlighted the reading corner, other map marked a “book hospital,” and some maps focused on the library entrance as the beginning of their journey with books.
A few children even mapped their path from the classroom to the library.
Map-making became a way for children to understand, experience, and take ownership of their learning space.
💡Fun fact : Everyone’s map looks a little different because we all notice and remember places in our own way. Geographers call these “mental maps.”

Reading goes beyond just words. In this video, a child shares their understanding of “Khichadi, ek lok katha” (big book) by Eklavya . It’s not just about retelling the story, but about how the child remembers it, connects with it, and expresses it in their own way.
With the support of our library educators at Varitra Foundation, children are encouraged to read, think, and share stories. Along the way, they begin to develop life skills like expression, imagination, and communication.
💡Fun fact : Studies in early childhood education show that humour supports learning by improving attention, memory, and social understanding in children. (Source: UNICEF – Early Childhood Development)
Sometimes, a simple story can shape how a child understands and shares the world.

Gratitude letter to parents 📮💌
This month, thousands of gratitude letters found their into our communities, dispatched via our very own little postmasters. As our children embark on their new academic year journey, they also step into another year of reading, imagining and enjoying in their libraries. So we thought, why not involve the parents in their children’s exciting new beginnings. This letter expresses our gratitude towards every parent’s love, resolve and resilience to provide their child a childhood filled with joy, hope and opportunities. We see you, and we thank you.
