"Pay your taxes honestly."

Most salaried Indians already do. The bigger question today is: what do citizens receive in return during a crisis?

A Bengaluru founder recently shared the story of a neighbour who reportedly paid 40–50% in taxes throughout his career, only to lose his job after suffering a cardiac arrest — while also supporting children in school and a wife on dialysis.

The story has struck a nerve online because it reflects a growing concern among India's middle class:

Rising taxes.

Expensive healthcare.

Limited social security.

And financial vulnerability even after years of compliance.

This is not about avoiding taxes. It's about accountability, public healthcare, insurance support, and safety nets for people who do everything "right" yet still struggle during emergencies.

A strong economy is not measured only by collections and GDP numbers. It is also measured by how protected citizens feel when life suddenly falls apart.

What do you think India needs more urgently right now: Better tax utilisation, stronger healthcare systems, or social security reforms?
