A new controversy has emerged around the use of "Shoorveer" in Mirzapur The Movie. Rajasthani singer and composer Rapperiya Baalam has publicly questioned how the song was used, saying that he was not approached for permission before it appeared in the film.

In his video, Baalam expressed his disappointment and raised a simple question: "Why was the song used without permission?" He explained that Shoorveer was created with a very different purpose as a tribute to the bravery, sacrifice and legacy of historical warriors, particularly Maharana Pratap.

According to his statement, he learned that the song had been used in Mirzapur after fans began messaging him about it. He said that had the makers approached him, he would have been willing to discuss the use of the song and even offer ideas, but he was upset that there was no direct communication with him.

The issue has therefore sparked a wider discussion about music rights, artist consent and the context in which a song is used. While the exact licensing or rights arrangements behind the film's use of the track have not been publicly clarified, Baalam has made his objection clear.

Shoorveer is closely associated with Rapperiya Baalam's body of work celebrating Indian historical figures. His catalogue includes multiple songs dedicated to figures such as Maharana Pratap, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and other warriors.

As of now, there does not appear to be a public response from the Mirzapur production team explaining how the song was cleared or licensed.

The controversy is not simply about a song appearing in a film - it has opened a larger conversation about whether creators should be consulted when their work is used in a completely different narrative or context.
