Out of 26 species of sparrow worldwide, 5 are found in India.Sparrow population in India has declined by 80% over past 3 decades.Factors like urbanisation, deforestation, replacement of ventilators with air conditioners in houses, radiation from mobile towers, pollution, use of insecticides and pesticides in farms and emission of harmful gases may be the main reasons for drastic decline in the population of sparrows.
