Indian rupee hits its lowest level against the US dollar

The Indian rupee hit its lowest level against the US dollar as it opened at 76.96 on Monday compared to a close of ₹76.17 on Friday. The rupee's previous low was at ₹76.91 in April 2020. The sharp fall comes amid soaring oil prices following the Russia-Ukraine conflict and continued outflows of foreign portfolio money.

McDonald's sued for $900 million by US startup over false advertising claims

GST Council may raise lowest tax slab from 5% to 8%: Reports

The GST Council may, in its next meeting, raise the lowest tax slab from 5% to 8% and prune the GST exemption list to increase revenues, Moneycontrol reported. A state finance ministers' panel will submit its report by March-end to the Council. The panel may also recommend a three-tier GST structure, with rates at 8%, 18% and 28%.

Visa, Mastercard suspend all operations in Russia over invasion of Ukraine

US payments firms Visa and Mastercard have announced that they will suspend all operations in Russia over the invasion of Ukraine. Both the companies said that cards issued abroad will no longer work at Russian ATMs and cards issued by Russian banks will not be supported by their networks. "We don't take this decision lightly," said Mastercard in its statement.

looming, Chelsea's Russian owner Roman Abramovich confirmed Wednesday he is trying to sell the Premier League club he turned into an elite trophy-winning machine with his lavish investment.
"In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club's sponsors and partners," Abramovich said in a statement.
Abramovich said he will not be asking to be repaid 1.5 billion pounds ($2 billion) in loans he has granted the club during 19 years of injecting cash to elevate the team into one of the most successful in Europe. The Blues won the Club World Cup for the first time last month - in front of Abramovich in Abu Dhabi - after securing a second Champions League title last year.

"I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated," he said. "The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine."
