During the great Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), the devas (gods) and asuras (demons) joined forces to obtain Amrit—the nectar of immortality. Using Mount Mandara as the churning rod and the serpent Vasuki as the rope, they churned the cosmic ocean. Many divine treasures emerged, but when the Amrit finally appeared, conflict arose. The asuras seized the nectar, refusing to share it with the devas. To restore balance, Lord Vishnu took the enchanting form of Mohini, a celestial beauty of unmatched charm and grace. Captivated by her presence, the asuras forgot their rivalry and trusted her to distribute the Amrit fairly. With intelligence and divine play, Mohini served the nectar only to the devas, keeping the asuras distracted. One asura, Rahu, disguised himself as a deva and managed to sip the Amrit. However, the Sun and Moon alerted Vishnu, who swiftly severed Rahu’s head with his Sudarshan Chakra. Since he had already tasted the nectar, Rahu became immortal.
