Fish curry kind of Sunday!! Xol maas, xoru maas, ilees (hilsa) maas cooked separately in yellow mustard.

Such Sundays recreate memories and invoke feelings reminiscent of our childhood in Assam where Sundays meant sourcing freshwater fish by the river and having a feast out of it.

Glorious Assamese food.

A popular tea-time snack, Tekeli Pitha or Keteli Pitha (prepared by steaming over a kettle lid) are signature rice cakes from Assam.

Rice powder, jaggery and grated coconut are mixed with hands to form a crumbly texture of a dough and then wrapped with a cloth, which is spread over a hot kettle lid for steaming.

These rice cakes resembling fluffy idlis have easily become my favourite tea accompaniment this year.

A warm broth of pork in lai xaak (mustard leaves) is the most comforting meal during this rainy, cold winter of Assam.
