Strengthening primary healthcare systems for a more climate-resilient Mumbai🏥
As part of the Gates Foundation-supported CLAP initiative, Mumbai First is conducting PHC mapping and baseline assessments across K-East, L, and M-East wards to evaluate healthcare infrastructure, staff preparedness, and community heat vulnerability.
At the same time, heat-related health advisories and awareness guidelines are being disseminated across health posts and dispensaries to support healthcare workers and patients alike.

Empowering frontline healthcare workers with Heat Health Guidelines is a critical step towards protecting vulnerable communities during extreme heat events.
As part of our Heat Mitigation Project, we are undertaking intensive outreach activities across PHCs and health posts in Mumbai’s M-East, K-East, and L wards to disseminate heat-health awareness among frontline health staff.
Since healthcare workers are often the first point of contact during heat-related emergencies, strengthening their understanding of heat risks, early symptoms, patient management, and community-level preparedness can play a vital role in building safer and more climate-resilient neighbourhoods.

In the second edition of our multi-stakeholder consultation on Sub City Heat Action Planning, chaired by Ms. Sujata Saunik, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai became the highlight of our deliberations and discussions on heat action.
At this consultation, we witnessed excellent participation from across the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and technical partners, who synthesized key challenges and insights for localized heat action with implementable outcomes for the city.
Similar to its Thane counterpart, the Mumbai edition reiterated the importance of developing ward-level strategies, including innovative ideas, and striving to recognize and commit to addressing the varied vulnerabilities on the ground.
Building a heat-resilient Mumbai, one step at a time.
In the aftermath of the success of our Thane edition, we are excited for our upcoming stakeholder consultation program on the Sub-City Heat Action Plan for Mumbai.
The session will be chaired by Ms. Sujata Saunik, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, and is designed as a multi-stakeholder interaction to identify priority actions for the development of a localised Heat Action Plan in the city.
