Project Chirag is a non-profit that harnesses solar power for sustainable rural development.

Project Chirag and the resultant youth movement by the name Chirag Light India Movement (CLIM) is an initiative run by the Chirag Rural Development Foundation. Launched in March 2010, this youth initiative aims to provide solar lights to those remote villages that do not have any access to electricity. There’s been a troubling trend in India: Many people are being forced to relocate from their homes in the villages and move to the cities. The numbers are overwhelming nearly 29% of the population in India is considered migrated, majority of which is the rural to urban migration. Project Chirag initiatives are helping to reduce forced migration with sustainable village development strategies.

As the sun sets, villages once shrouded in darkness now shine with light. Solar solutions are more than just power; they are ensuring access to a most basic human right, the right to light. This , we celebrate this right. With the support of our donors, we have had the privilege to light up 815 villages in 11 states, illuminating the lives of 1,70,407 citizens. Let the light shine on!

This we celebrate solar power breaking generational cycles of poverty and stress migration. Our sustainable livelihood program provides water for irrigation and empowers women, reducing family separation and school dropouts. We are cultivating economic growth and community resilience with the contribution of likeminded donors that have supported 625 acres of land to receive access to year long solar irrigation for sustainable livelihoods.
