Fantastic Forts - Episode 2 | Mehrangarh | Khejarla | Dhikola
In Episode 1, you saw how many of our “Fantastic Forts” are not just larger than life, but living examples that showcase the incredible engineering skills of our forefathers, who combined indigenous military design with natural terrain, to create impregnable and sustainable fortifications which have successfully weathered the challenges of time.
In this episode, Bob drives to some other such fabulous forts, starting with the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, which still keeps watch over Jodhpur. Mehrangarh is not just one of India’s most mighty forts; it’s possibly also amongst the best preserved and definitely most efficiently managed ones. Fantastic Forts - Episode 1 | Chittaurgarh | Kumbhalgarh | Sardargarh
In episode 1 of this new series of “Fantastic Forts”, Bob first drives to Chittaurgarh - the ‘Mother of all Forts”. After exploring what is not just India’s, but also Asia’s largest fort, Bob proceeds to Kumbhalgarh, whose formidable walls stretch over 36 kilometres, making it the second longest in the world, after the “Great Wall of China”. Then it’s onto Sardargarh, an 18th Century lesser known fort, where he meets descendants of the family that have been residing in this fascinating fort for over 300 years.
All these forts are not just spectacular, but are also symbols of courage, valour, power and grandeur, and the tales that these age old citadels tell, are both inspiring and intriguing. These are not just forts, but living examples that showcase the incredible engineering skills of our forefathers, who combined indigenous military design with natural terrain, to create impregnable and sustainable fortifications which have successfully weathered the challenges of time. This is also where history refuses to die and where the land still echoes the shouts of bravery. So let’s go on an “Exploration Drive to some Fantastic Forts”.
