Evaluation of the rate of water drop, sharpness of oil/water interface, and cleanliness of the water are included in analyzing for the proper demulsifier. In oil production systems, water is often present in the reservoir and is co-produced with the oil. Due to the presence of emulsifying agents, such as:
• Naturally occurring surfactants in the oil / water
• Silts, fine solids, drilling mud, and clays
• Shearing effects resulting from turbulent flow and pumps, these fluids combine to form an emulsion
• Water and steam floods. Water clarifiers or reverse demulsifiers are also available for aid in removing oil and solids from oil field and industrial waters. The need for chemical demulsifiers is seen in almost every industry segment; anywhere oil and water are used. Major users of demulsifiers include the following industries: steel, aluminum, chemical processing, petroleum refining, fuel washing prior to gas turbines, slop and tramp oil treatment, and in the processing of crude oil in the oil field, both to treat synthetic mud’s and to treat the produced hydrocarbons. The type of demulsifier selected depends on whether the emulsion is water-continuous or hydrocarbon-continuous. And whether the solids or other impurities are desired in the water layer or are to be incorporated in the oil layer. DOSAGE: Because of the diverse nature of oil and waste amenable to treatment with RIMPRO demulsifier, specific recommendations have to be made on a case-by-case basis. The dosage of RIMPRO demulsifier prescribed to break a particular emulsion varies from as little as 1 gallon per 20,000 gallons (50 ppm) of oil to as much as 1 gallon per 10,000 gallons (100 ppm) of oil. A few clients have even found that 20 ppm was more effective than the higher dosages, so we suggest adding the lower levels to your laboratory bench tests to verify the correct dosage for the specific application. Finding the most cost-effective dosage, as well as determining the best conditions of temperature, slow mixing, settling time, etc., is best done in the laboratory, using a sample of the actual oil or waste and a sample of RIMPRO demulsifier
APPLICATION: Once you have determined the correct dose of RIMPRO demulsifier, fill the tank with the waste-oil-water solution and inject the correct dose of RIMPRO demulsifier directly from the drum. Mix thoroughly, with the assistance of a pump, for two to five hours. Mixing time varies depending on the size of the tank and the speed of the motor. Allow the fuel to settle and check for water separation. Depending on the configuration of the tank, either remove the water by means of a drain in the bottom or suck the clean oil off from the top of the tank. WATER SOLUBLE DEMULSIFIER

Corrosion in the Oilfield
The production of gas and oil is often accompanied by water, either from the formation, from condensation, or from water injected as lift assist. Acid gases, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are often present in produced fluids, and oxygen is sometimes a contaminant in the water used for injection. These acid gases increase the corrosively of the waters to steel, and can significantly impact the safe operating life of production tubular and equipment, production vessels, and transportation systems. The presence or absence of multiple phases (gas, water, and oil or condensate) in the same system can complicate the problem of controlling corrosion. The flow regime or pattern of fluids in a tubing string, vessel, or pipeline can have a significant impact on corrosivity. If a well or pipeline experiences "slug" or intermittent flow, highly corrosive conditions may exist in the area of the pipe in slug flow. Pipelines can experience top-of-line corrosion when conditions promote the rapid condensation of water in a cooler section of the line, causing a film of water to form at the top of the line. This water at the top of the pipe becomes saturated with acid gases and corrodes the pipe. A further complication is a change in conditions, such as flow rate, temperature, and pressure over the life of a well, production or processing system, or pipeline, which can result in changing corrosivity or even a change in the potential corrosion mechanisms. The control of corrosion in the oilfield can be a complex problem, requiring detailed analysis and a thorough understanding of the range of conditions expected during the life of the system prior to the development of a corrosion management plan. Applications RIM 105 inhibitor is effective at relatively low concentrations in all water base muds. It has proven to be particularly useful in reducing oxygen corrosion in aerated muds, low solids, no dispersed, polymer muds, and potassium muds. The product should be evenly dispersed throughout the circulating mud system and can be added either through the chemical barrel or directly to the mud pits wherever good agitation occurs. The recommended initial treatment of RIM 105 inhibitor is 2 to 4 gal/100 bbl (0.5 to 1.0 L/m3) depending on anticipated conditions, other chemicals used in the system, and the corrosive environment, te*, salinity, pH, temperature, oxygen content and acid gases. If the corrosion rate is unacceptably high, the concentration should be increased to at least 7 gal/100 bbl (1.7 L/m3). For aerated systems, an initial treatment of 12 gal/100 bbl (2.9 L/m3) is recommended. The corrosion rates should be monitored at all times with corrosion coupons and treatments should be adjusted according to their analysis. A good corrosion control program includes a thorough makeup water analysis, chemical treatments for corrosive contaminants and an adequate bacterial control for systems that contain biodegradable additives. RIM 106 product is a water-soluble, oil-dispersible organic corrosion inhibitor intended for use in oil and gas flow lines, pipelines and production equipment. RIM 106 inhibitor has been extensively tested by an independent third party laboratory and has exhibited excellent partitioning of 98%, >95% protection in bubble testing, good inhibition against galvanic attack and jet impingement and excellent performance under severe HT/HP flow loop 5 bar CO, 10 bar total pressure at 85C.
