my friend is on a plane back to the buttery flakey crust of their home and I will miss this era of touring with them very dearly. miss their scrunched eye laugh, the wading through the morning blur together, the stopping for sharks and rocks equally, the sound of their songs right there in the room with me. the knowing that parts of us will always be deeply torn between countries and the constant witnessing of the tragedy of the world together no shying away. I truly think mimi is one of the best songwriters there is and it’s been a privilege to live behind the wheel with them. may you all melt as I did when Mim’s next record arrives.

standing outside your house like it’s the 90s
just got off work and had to tell you that I know
I’m sure you’re up to something
hold up a sign says “no one’s this good lookin
and I have to say it blows”
they say I’m a good man (unassuming)
but I couldn’t let it slide this evening
golden hour, you’re weightless now
get it off your chest and tell
a woman you’re in love with her

a few hours after this photo was taken of me finding the sun, I found a small bat hanging in the rafters next to the lightbulb. the dog alerted me to her, the same way she alerts me to anything living. and to be honest, anything not living that she assumes is living, because she doesn’t know yet. like a glove. or a pumpkin off the vine. or a rock. maybe she knows more than us. or could just be a bit stupid. I love her either way and she was right about the bat. it stared right at me from the ceiling, before showing off with a few manic circles. I summoned the voice of Merlin Tuttle in my head and felt no fear. I thought about the bat who learnt who he was and said hello every time he entered the cave. I entertained the dream of a relationship like that for a second before remembering that time Angie found a dead bat in this exact lounge a few months ago and texted me a picture of the deceased. obviously would prefer not to repeat. so promptly ushered this particular bat outside by turning all the lights off and shining a torch into the trees out the door. a trick at the recommendation of my aunt. she followed the light and left me. I didn’t know that bats liked light. I didn’t know that I like bats. I thank the dog for the warning. we all go back to search for something living.

last show tonight for me tonight with my beautiful friend who drinks from too many cups and laughs at their life mid song and downs carrots like a rabbit and worships vinegar and sparkles always and forever has a song for the gap you’re experiencing. I will miss travelling through time together, showing each other our homes and standing shoulder to shoulder at the door to every evening

a few tix left for this afternoon at with our sweet bestie matineeeee show 🦇 and don’t miss Mimi in Perth without me!!

“you fold the linen with a knife between your teeth, every colour of our rainbow in neat piles around your feet, I say baby please be careful, remember when you cut your thumb? i steal a glance, I’m always stealing glances, you are in some ways the only thing I think a lot about these days. soft skin, big tooth, some future. I see it all now with ya. give me back my own mind - I did not ask to find. I did not ask to be consumed by you.”

snippet of a new gay love song I wrote during ’s beautiful rolling month of classes, filmed in a bumbling raw recital by in Naarm on Saturday night 🧡

behind the scenes of “some kind of control” being pressed into a record! this is how it happens. it is weird creating a physical item as part of making music and never seeing exactly how or who or where it gets made, when if you think about it all the rest of the music process I know exactly how and where and who. so thank you for letting me crash your machine day.

these exact records are available for pre order at the link in my bio 💙 I would like to sell them to you, they sound better on vinyl than they do on the internet.
