The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Mandi hosted a lecture and a workshop by Dr Easterine Kire, a renowned novelist, poet, and writer of short stories and children's books. In her lecture on “Writing from the Heart: Dil se Direct”, Dr Kire discussed how nature and spirituality are closely interwoven in her works, while also reading out passages from her writings. She also highlighted the dangers of academic misinterpretation and political appropriation of literature influenced by inapplicable theories that distance the work from its original intent. During the Creative Writing workshop on “Harvesting Memory”, Dr Kire performed a jazz poem and read out a couple of her works, while also encouraging participants to live and write about localities by experiencing the culture first-hand and speaking to people. Dr Kire also led the inauguration of a Library of Himalayan Literature and Culture, at SHSS IIT Mandi.
