A Monumental Loss!

The passing away of Air Marshal (Retd.) Denzil Keelor PVSM, KC, AVSM, VrC, a few hours ago, is a monumental loss not just for the Anglo-Indian community, the Indian Armed Forces, and the Special Olympics Bharat, but for the entire nation.

A thorough gentleman, Air Marshall was the one of the finest and most decorated officers of the Indian Air Force. He served our great nation valiantly and selflessly, in times of war and peace. We salute him for his colossal contribution.

He was a man with a heart of gold, who reached out to anyone who needed help - help of any sort - especially the less fortunate and the challenged, with a deep sense of compassion.

Many had the privilege of knowing him well and spending quality time with him. I was blessed to be one of them. So, I take the liberty of sharing with you a short paragraph I wrote about him. It communicates just one of the many facets of his character and what he stood for.

“Working alongside Air Marshal Denzil Keelor for the community, one of the country's most decorated officers, I have learnt that when in the hot seat, time is of essence. When I asked him how he never hesitates to take prompt decisions, he said to me: ‘In war, there are no emotions or romance - if you don't get him, he'll get you!' Another soldier-adage of his that has stayed with me is: 'You have to trust your partner and he has to trust you. Total trust. You must have his back and he must have yours.'

We will all miss you, Sir, but we thank the Lord for the gift of you to us, together, and individually!

Sleep well, great soldier and gentle soul!
