Happy birthday to our co-creator, partner in chaos and one half of us... Sriyanka Roy
Surabhi Krishna Srivastava is probably one of my most favourite actors of the younger generation. She is a powerhouse performer. What fascinates me even more is her process.
The way she prepares for a character, observes details, and builds a performance often feels surprisingly close to how I approach cinematography. In fact, I have picked up a thing or two simply by watching her work.
There is an honesty, energy, and commitment she brings to every role, and that energy inevitably finds its way into the frame as well.
Here, Surabhi shares her thoughts on our creative association, the process of collaboration between actor and cinematographer, and a few words about the upcoming workshop.

With this, Cinemar Jholjhal Podcast comes to an end.
Thank you for tolerating our cinematic overthinking, emotional damages and award-winning opinions.
Just 2 more days to go for the workshop.
See you all very soon.
Season 2 of Cinemar Jholjhal?
Depends on budget and emotional stability
and yes… if society can tolerate us again.

National Award-winning filmmaker Rajdeep Paul needs no introduction. Together, Rajdeep and Sarmistha have created some of the most important films in contemporary Indian cinema, and they have still been waging this battle on their own terms.
Over the years, they have closely witnessed how our workshop mentor Rana Pratap Karforma sees, thinks, and creates as a cinematographer and, more importantly, as a co-creator. They gave him the freedom to explore, experiment, fail, grow, and ultimately “reach the sky.”
From independent films to deeply personal journeys, this relationship has been built on trust, understanding, and a shared love for cinema.
It would be best to hear directly from Rajdeep about Rana’s journey through the years, how he has evolved as an artist, and why he now wishes to share that experience with a new generation of filmmakers through this workshop.

Cinema starts with how you see things. It’s your point of view.
I’ve spent years learning this in film school, and even more years learning it the hard way on real sets through both success and failure.
This workshop goes beyond basic theory, and a bit deeper than what you usually find in books or YouTube. We’ll learn how to read and create images, and then move into how cinematographers think and how visual choices shape storytelling.
Along with that, we’ll focus on real-world filmmaking- how to prep, compose, light, shoot and handle practical challenges on set, and how to apply your ideas under pressure.
A 3-day cinematography intensive for those who want to really understand how cinematography works and how to practice it. All details are in the poster and also in the registration link. Registration link is in the comment box.

Neeraj Gwal is one of the most distinctive emerging voices from the regional film landscape of India. Through his films, he has created an exceptional cinematic identity rooted in sensitivity, realism, folklore and emotional depth.
Workshop mentor Rana Pratap Karforma and Neeraj have collaborated on two films so far; both entirely different in genre, visual language and emotional texture.
What connects them is not merely a director-cinematographer collaboration, but a mutual admiration for each other’s cinematic philosophies, their way of observing the world, and the evolving dialogue that emerges through their creative process together.
Here, Neeraj shares a few words for the participants of the Moby Narrative 3-Day Cinematography Intensive.
