Property buyers came out of hiding in Mumbai, India’s priciest real estate market, to boost the sagging fortunes of a segment crippled by the coronavirus lockdown. A raft of transactions for commercial and residential properties were finalised in the Mumbai registration and stamp duty department after it reopened for business on May 18.

Affordable housing fin cos may see increase in NPAs
It said that the total portfolio of the new HFCs in the affordable housing space stood at Rs 52,350 crore as on December 31, 2019, registering a year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth of 18%. “While the loan book growth of these entities could be in the range of 16-20% in FY2020, the growth numbers for FY2021 could be much lower and would depend on how long this situation persists and the time it takes for the companies and end borrowers to recover from the impact,” said VP (financial sector ratings) Manushree Saggar.
