Shortly after he just became grandmaster, and still relatively unknown, I picked D Gukesh to go the furthest among the new young crop of players. I still feel the same today. Some thought I was crazy for saying that, especially when there are so much talent around. There were a number of reasons for my conclusion.

Talent alone is not enough to reach the pinnacle. There are many incredibly talented young players around the world. The X-factors which set him apart from others, IMHO, is his drive, his will to win, his demeanor, his nerves, his confidence, his body language, his calmness, his discipline, his maturity, his ability to handle losses, his desire to get better, and his professionalism, etc.

I have seen a few who I believe have more natural born talent, and could have become World Champions. But they squandered the opportunity because they were missing some of things I mentioned above. If he continues this improvement path and not be content with the success so far, the chess world will be in for a treat.
