Kashmir Now on Fast Track: First Direct Vande Bharat Between Jammu & Srinagar Flagged Off.
This is the journey where distance, delay, and difficulty finally meet speed.

In a landmark moment for Jammu and Kashmir, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the first direct Vande Bharat Express connecting Jammu and Srinagar—marking a historic leap in the region’s connectivity.

According to reports, this is the first-ever direct train linking the two capitals of the Union Territory, significantly reducing travel time to around 5 hours, compared to the long and often unpredictable road journey.

The newly extended service, earlier running between Katra and Srinagar, has now been upgraded to originate from Jammu Tawi—creating a seamless rail corridor across the region. Officials also expanded the train from 8 to 20 coaches to meet overwhelming demand.

Railway authorities highlighted that the train is designed to operate even in extreme weather conditions, making it a reliable alternative when highways are blocked due to landslides or harsh winters.

Beyond convenience, the impact is much bigger. The direct link is expected to boost tourism, pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi, trade, and overall economic activity, while strengthening integration of the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India.

This isn’t just a train flag-off.
It’s a moment where geography bends to infrastructure—and Kashmir moves closer than ever before.

A chain snatching incident in Channi Himmat has triggered concern after CCTV footage of the crime surfaced online, capturing the entire act in real time.

According to reports, the incident took place in the early hours, where bike-borne snatchers targeted a woman and fled within seconds after grabbing her gold chain. The visuals show the accused approaching swiftly, executing the theft, and escaping before any immediate reaction could take place.

The CCTV clip has since gone viral, with locals raising alarm over safety in residential areas. The speed and precision of the act have once again highlighted how such crimes are being carried out in broad daylight or early hours, often leaving victims with little chance to respond.

Police have reportedly taken cognisance of the incident and launched an investigation, scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused and track their movement. Efforts are underway to trace the suspects and prevent similar incidents in the area.

The case has intensified discussions around street crime in Jammu, with residents demanding stricter patrolling and surveillance. As the video continues to circulate, the focus remains on swift action and ensuring public safety in the locality.

A strong action under the anti-drug campaign has been reported from Udhampur, where police demolished property allegedly linked to a drug peddler as part of the ongoing crackdown.

According to reports, the action was carried out in the Ramnagar Talab area against Rafiq Jogran. Officials stated that the property was believed to be associated with narcotics-related activities, and its demolition was conducted under legal provisions as part of the broader “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir” drive.

Police sources indicated that such measures are aimed not only at arresting those involved in drug trafficking but also at dismantling the infrastructure and financial networks supporting the illegal trade. Adequate security arrangements were in place during the operation to maintain law and order.

The development comes amid intensified efforts by authorities across Jammu & Kashmir to curb the spread of drugs, particularly among youth, with multiple operations being conducted in recent months targeting peddlers and their networks.

Officials have reiterated that the campaign will continue with strict action against those found involved, as the administration pushes towards a drug-free region through enforcement as well as public awareness.

A major political development has unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir as AAP MLA Mehraj Malik was released from Kathua jail after the High Court quashed his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

According to reports, the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court set aside the detention order, terming it legally unsustainable and directing authorities to release him immediately. Malik had been in custody since September 2025 under the stringent preventive detention law.

Following the court’s decision, Malik walked out of Kathua District Jail, where he was greeted by supporters who had gathered outside the premises. His release marks a significant legal relief, especially as he is the only MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party in the Union Territory assembly.

Legal representatives argued that the detention order lacked proper application of mind and did not justify invoking a law as strict as the PSA, which allows preventive detention without trial. The court agreed, ruling that such grounds could not be stretched to maintain prolonged custody.

The case had drawn widespread political attention over the past months, with opposition leaders raising concerns over the use of PSA against a sitting elected representative. Malik’s release is now being seen as a key moment in the ongoing debate around preventive detention laws in the region.

As the political landscape reacts to this development, the High Court’s ruling has once again put the spotlight on the balance between security measures and democratic rights in Jammu & Kashmir.

A major cultural milestone is being reported for the global Kashmiri Pandit community, as members of the diaspora in the United States have acquired land worth nearly ₹20 crore in California for the construction of a dedicated temple for Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple.

According to circulating reports, the land—spread across a significant area in Livermore—has been purchased collectively by community members, with contributions from individuals across the diaspora. The initiative is being seen as one of the largest religious and cultural efforts by Kashmiri Pandits outside India in recent years.

The temple of Mata Kheer Bhawani holds deep spiritual importance for Kashmiri Hindus, symbolizing faith, identity, and resilience. For a community that faced displacement during the 1990 exodus, such efforts are being viewed as a powerful way to preserve heritage and pass it on to future generations.

Community leaders believe the proposed temple will serve not only as a place of worship but also as a cultural hub—hosting festivals, rituals, and gatherings that keep traditions alive far from their original homeland. The project reflects a broader effort by the diaspora to rebuild a sense of belonging and continuity despite geographical distance.

As this development gains attention online, it is being hailed as more than just a construction project—it represents memory, identity, and the enduring connection of a community to its roots, even across continents.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for an immediate end to the escalating conflict in West Asia, involving Iran, United States, and Israel, warning that its global impact is already being felt through rising oil prices and disrupted supply chains. Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said the situation is affecting economies worldwide and stressed that the war “should not be happening.”

Highlighting the scale of disruption, he pointed to shrinking fuel supplies and logistical challenges being faced by several countries, particularly in Europe. He also referenced the situation in neighbouring Pakistan, where aircraft are reportedly allowed to land but not refuel, underlining the growing strain on global fuel networks and aviation systems.

Despite the turbulence, Abdullah noted that India remains in a relatively stable position compared to many other nations. However, he cautioned that a prolonged conflict could worsen the situation globally, impacting essential commodities, trade routes, and economic stability.

Calling for restraint, Abdullah said that while the reasons behind the attacks remain unclear to outsiders, the consequences are evident and damaging. He reiterated that the conflict must end at the earliest to prevent further escalation and global fallout.

He also expressed hope that India, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, could play a constructive diplomatic role in easing tensions, given its strong international relations. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran to allow space for negotiations, though Tehran has not formally responded so far.

While speaking on Prakhar Gupta’s podcast, journalist Aditya Raj Kaul opened up about his decades-long effort to bring attention to the plight of Kashmiri Pandits, stating that for nearly 25 years, he wrote to filmmakers questioning why the community’s suffering was consistently ignored in mainstream narratives. He said the silence around the issue reflected either fear, ideological bias, or a lack of willingness to confront uncomfortable truths.

Kaul highlighted the mass displacement of Kashmiri Pandits during the 1990 exodus, describing it as a “genocide” and “forced exile,” while pointing to the continued absence of accountability and justice. He emphasized that despite the scale of the tragedy, not a single perpetrator has been held legally accountable, raising serious concerns over systemic neglect and institutional silence.

Addressing the film industry, Kaul revealed that several filmmakers he approached over the years acknowledged his knowledge but avoided taking up the subject. However, he noted that recent films like The Kashmir Files and discussions around projects like Article 370 have begun to shift the narrative, bringing long-suppressed stories into public discourse.

He also reiterated his support for the abrogation of Article 370, calling it a necessary step toward justice and integration after decades of political and social turmoil. According to him, acknowledging history truthfully is essential for reconciliation and for ensuring such events are never repeated.

Kaul’s remarks underline a larger conversation around memory, justice, and representation, as he continues to advocate for recognition of the Kashmiri Pandit community’s suffering, urging both institutions and society to confront the past with honesty rather than silence.
