BVP Gandhi Nagar Branch Organises a Trilogy of Guru Vandan, Chhatra Abhinandan Programmes

: Bharat Vikas Parishad, Gandhi Nagar Branch, under the leadership of its President, Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma, created a hat-trick by organizing three Guru Vandan, Chhatra Abhinandan programmes in a week in three different schools, by organizing the third programme in the series in Rose Public School, Shastri Nagar, Jammu, today.

Sh. Vishal Sharma, Principal, Rose Public High School, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma, President, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Gandhi Nagar Branch, Jammu, presided over the function.

Prof. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Member, National Gatividhi, Seva, Bharat Vikas Parishad, was the Main Speaker on the occasion, which, S. Gurmeet Singh, State Convenor, Seva, BVP, was the Distinguished Speaker.

State President, BVP, Mrs. Sunita Gupta, was the Distinguished Guest on the occasion.

During the programme, Students of the School, venerated the teache School, by touching their feet, garlanding them, putting a Tilak on their fo and presented ceremonial chunaries and pens to them.

As a return gesture, the teachers bestowed their blessings on them and presented notebooks and pens to them.

Speaking on the occasion, the Main Speaker, Prof. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, highlighted the virtues of being a good student. He said that when the student satisfies the Guru about his being a worthy recipient, the Guru bestows on him the eye-opening, life-changing knowledge, which dispels the darkness of ignorance.

The Distinguished Speaker S. Gurmeet Singh said that the best example of what a transformative influence True Gurus can have is Sikhism where an abject, subjugated, population, tortured and killed by genocidal foreign invaders, was transformed into a formidable martial race, and blessed that martial race with an immortalizing classical music in the form of Shabad Keertan.

Blessing him with a tough exterior and soft interior, the True Gurus transformed a meek, quivering slave into a roaring lion - the Sikh (Shishya). Today, the Sikh stands as a symbol of fearlessness, trustworthiness and patriotism. This is what Guru-Shishya Prampara, exemplified by Sikhism, can do.

The Distinguished Guest, Mrs. Sunita Gupta highlighted the sweetness of Guru-Shishya relationship by telling the story of a poor student, who was helped by a kind teacher, when the student could not pay his tuition fees, and who on maturity becomes a famous surgeon, and returns the teacher's kind gesture by paying teacher's hospital bills and performing a life-saving surgery on him free of charge, when the economically struggling old teacher found himself unable to afford the hospital bills, and was considering dying without treatment.

In his presidential address, Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma pointed out that the relationship between the teacher and student was a delicate one. When this bond is strong, the communication between the teacher and student becomes smooth and lightening fast. And the bond is strengthened when the student is truly respectful to the teacher.

On the other hand, addressing the teachers, he urged the teachers to prove worthy of the high pedestal of love and respect. They should constantly enrich their knowledge and sharpen their teacher prowess and also teach by self-example, as the students tend to look upon their favourite teacher as a role-model.

The programme was ably conducted by Sh. Chander Uday Sharma, Secretary of Gandhi Nagar branch.

Also present on the occasion, were the Vice Presidents Ved Verma and Tilak Raj Sharma, Treasurer Ranjan Gupta, Mrs. Renu Malhotra and teachers and students and other staff of Rose Public High School, Shastri Nagar, Jammu.

The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and signing of National Song Vande Mataram, and concluded with National Anthem.

It is pertinent to mention here that BVP Gandhi Nagar conducted similar programmes on June 1, 2026at S D Tarapuri High School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, where Principal Ms.

Arun Kumar Sharma, Regional Convenor Sanskar BVP was the distinguished speaker.

All the three programmes were presided over by Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma, President, BVP Gandhi Nagar Branch, while Mrs. Sunita Gupta, State President, BVP, was the Distinguished Guest.

Millions of Salutations: Sangat Gathers at Sri Akal Takht Sahib for Third Ghallughara Ardas

By Sandeep Singh

: An Ardas (prayer) assembly was held at Sri Akal Takht Sahib to commemorate the Singhs and Singhnis who attained martyrdom during the Third Ghallughara (holocaust) of June 1984.

During the ceremony, prayers and supplications were offered before the True Lord (Satguru). A large number of Panthic personalities and the congregation (Sangat) attended the occasion. Thoughts were shared with the gathering in the light of Gurmat (Guru's teachings).

In 1984, the great 20th-century general Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, Bhai Amrik Singh Ji, General Shabeg Singh Ji, Bhai Thara Singh Ji, and the Babbar warriors drank the nectar of martyrdom while fighting the army sent by the Government of India.
Our Guru has said:

"ਜੇ ਜੀਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਲਥੀ ਜਾਇ।। ਸਭ ਹਰਾਮੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਖਾਇ।।"

(If one lives their life at the cost of their honor, everything they consume is illicit/unearned).

In the two holocausts (Ghallugharas) that occurred before this, the attackers were outsiders; however, in this holocaust, the rulers belonged to our own country. Drawing inspiration from the fortress of Chamkaur (Chamkaur di Garhi), the Sikhs confronted these attackers in such a manner that great intellectuals across the world acknowledge that what the Sikhs did in 1984 has no parallel in the world.

The young daughters of Bhai Mohar Singh took inspiration from the Chhota Sahibzadas (the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji) and drank the nectar of martyrdom. Even at that time, there were conspiracies to eliminate the distinct identity of the Sikhs, and conspiracies continue even today.

Sikhs are equal citizens within this country. People from all over the country come and settle in Punjab, and no one faces discrimination. On the other hand, if Sikhs travel to an outside state even for two days—such as Himachal Pradesh—they are attacked, and their beards and turbans are desecrated.

The rulers of the time must realize that we are equal partners; we are not second-class citizens. Today, Sikhs live across the globe and have established a unique identity worldwide through the spirit of Sarbat da Bhala (the welfare of all). However, for some time now, various pretexts are being used to create an atmosphere of hatred against Sikhs.

My message to the Sikhs living around the world is: do not leave your homeland; never completely abandon Punjab. Bring your children back to Punjab. Bring them to the sacred land of the Darbar Sahib.

The ruler of that time, Indira Gandhi, enacted several black laws and attempted to eliminate the existence of the Sikhs. Today’s governments are also enacting black laws.

The Panth has never accepted, nor will it ever accept, any law forcefully imposed upon Sri Guru Granth Sahib on this land. The Sikhs requested that laws be formed against the perpetrators of sacrilege (Beadbi). Instead, this law was weaponized against the Sikhs themselves. No action has been taken against the culprits of Bargari yet. The perpetrators of the Maur bomb blast have not been arrested either.

In 2019, an announcement was made regarding Bhai Balwant Singh Ji stating that his death sentence would be commuted to life imprisonment, but no action has been taken on this either. Several Bandi Singhs (Sikh political prisoners), including Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, remain detained in prisons even after completing their sentences. The mother of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara wishes to meet him, but the reunion of the mother and son is not being allowed.

Next year marks the 450th anniversary of the founding of Sri Amritsar Sahib. While plastic is banned in all other cities, Amritsar is the sole exception. Whenever a centenary approaches, the authorities dig ditches in the paths leading to our Takhts. There is still a year left—if you clean up and beautify the city of Amritsar, it will prove your honesty.

Yesterday, at the Shaheedi Gallery (Martyrs' Gallery), I met a mother who was searching for pictures of her sons. That mother’s sons sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Panth (community). The True Lord has proclaimed:
'ਖਖੜੀਆ ਸੁਹਾਵੀਆ ਲਗੜੀਆ ਅਕ ਕੰਠਿ ॥ ਬਿਰਹ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਧਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਸੈ ਗੰਠਿ॥'

(Beautiful are the bitter swallow-warts (khakhria) that cling to the branch of the Ak shrub. O Nanak, separation from the Master brings a thousand heartaches).

Let us connect with our roots. Sikhs living abroad should also bring their children to this land and introduce them to their glorious history.

On this occasion, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President S. Harjinder Singh Ji Dhami, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Singh Sahib Baba Tek Singh Ji, Singh Sahib Giani Amarjit Singh Ji, Singh Sahib Giani Balwinder Singh Ji, Singh Sahib Giani Balwinder Pal Singh Ji Bhutter, Singh Sahib Jathedar Baba Balbir Singh Ji 96 Krori, Singh Sahib Jathedar Baba Avtar Singh Ji Dal Baba Bidhi Chand, Singh Sahib Jathedar Baba Nihal Singh Ji Harian Velan Wale, Bhai Sahib Bhai Isher Singh Ji (son of Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa), Bhai Sahib Bhai Manjit Singh Ji from the family of Bhai Amrik Singh Ji, our sister Satwant Kaur Ji, S. Beant Singh (brother of General Shabeg Singh), all Sikh organizations, Jathedar Baba Jasbir Singh Ji Rode, Bhai Sukhwinder Singh (brother of Bhai Satwant Singh Ji), various Sikh seminaries, and the Sikh youth who came to remember their martyrs—may the Guru accept every single step they took for this cause.

Let us remember our martyrs and carry forward the message of Chardi Kala (high spirits/eternal optimism). The Panth was in Chardi Kala, is in Chardi Kala, and will always remain in Chardi Kala.

In conclusion, once again, millions of salutations to the martyrdom of the lakhs of Singhs, Singhnis, and children who sacrificed their lives for Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the nation in June 1984, Jathedar Sahab.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
