JMC Launches AI-Driven Pothole Detection and ₹1.3 Crore Cold Emulsion Patching Machine for Pre-Monsoon Road Repairs

In a major technology-driven initiative to improve urban infrastructure, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has operationalized an integrated system combining Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based road monitoring with a state-of-the-art Cold Emulsion Pothole Patching Machine worth ₹1.3 crore for scientific and timely repair of damaged roads across Jammu city.

The initiative was showcased today during a live demonstration organized for the media in Jammu. Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, while briefing the media, said that the Corporation has adopted a proactive approach towards road maintenance by leveraging modern technology to identify and repair potholes before the onset of the monsoon season.

Under the initiative, specially equipped municipal vehicles fitted with AI-enabled cameras have been deployed for continuous monitoring of city roads. The AI system automatically detects potholes and other road defects, geo-tags their locations, and generates digital reports for engineering teams. The identified locations are then taken up for immediate repair using the newly commissioned Cold Emulsion Pothole Patching Machine, ensuring quick, durable and all-weather road restoration.

Dr. Yadav stated that the integration of AI-based detection with mechanized patching technology will significantly reduce the time taken between identification and repair of road defects, thereby enhancing road safety, improving riding comfort and minimizing damage during the rainy season.

The AI platform has also been designed to detect a wide range of civic issues including garbage on roads, overflowing dustbins, water logging, open manholes, open drains, damaged pavements, broken road markings, illegal parking, encroachments, stray cattle, C&D waste dumping and other municipal defects, enabling a comprehensive smart governance framework.

The initiative represents a significant step towards predictive maintenance and data-driven urban management. By combining advanced Artificial Intelligence with modern road maintenance equipment, Jammu Municipal Corporation is creating a responsive and efficient system for upkeep of civic infrastructure and delivery of better public services.

The live demonstration of the Cold Emulsion Pothole Patching Machine highlighted its capability to carry out rapid and high-quality repairs, reinforcing JMC's commitment to ensuring safer and better roads for the citizens of Jammu.
