Newly appointed Manipur Police DGP Mukesh Singh arrived in Imphal on Saturday afternoon and will take charge from June 1, officials said.
Singh was received by senior police officers at Imphal airport after he landed from New Delhi.
Outgoing DGP Rajiv Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer, took charge of Manipur Police chief at the height of ethnic conflict in June 2023.
Following his completion of the tenure in the state, he has been transferred by the Centre to serve as the secretary (security) in the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi.
Singh, the 1996-batch IPS officer, had previously served as the police chief in Ladakh.

Technical Snag Disrupts Gulmarg Gondola Service, Hundreds of Tourists Safely Evacuated
Final Report 24X7 || SRINAGAR, May 25
A temporary technical issue disrupted operations of the Gulmarg Gondola service in north Kashmir on Monday, leaving several tourists stranded in cable car cabins for some time before a coordinated rescue operation safely evacuated them.
Officials said the gondola service came to a halt following a technical fault, affecting nearly 300 tourists who were travelling in the cable cars at the time of the incident.
Soon after the disruption, rescue teams comprising personnel from the Army’s 9 Raj Rif, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, and the civil administration reached the spot and initiated evacuation procedures.
Senior officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Tehsildar of Tangmarg, monitored the operation on the ground to ensure the safe evacuation of all passengers.
Eyewitnesses said many tourists, including women and children, appeared anxious after the service stopped mid-air. However, officials assured that the situation remained under control and that rescue operations were being carried out smoothly.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said he was personally monitoring the rescue operation and had directed the Director General of Police to proceed to the site.
“I’m monitoring the rescue operation for tourists stranded in cable car cabins following a technical fault in Gulmarg. I have directed the DGP to proceed to the site. A joint rescue team of Police, Army, SDRF, along with the DC and SSP, is conducting the operation to ensure the safety of all tourists,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Technical experts were also deployed to assess the issue and restore the gondola service at the earliest.
The Gulmarg Gondola, one of Kashmir’s major tourist attractions, receives a large number of visitors during the summer season. Authorities said all necessary safety measures were followed during the evacuation process.
