How To Sustain Your Events Business Amid COVID-19 Crisis?
Events Industry like others has been badly hit by the Coronavirus Pandemic. Most of the events are getting cancelled or postponed.
It’s a confusing situation as an event organizer. On the one hand- we must follow the guidelines of public health officials and the directions of our local government to help stop the rapid spread of the COVID-19; on the other hand, we need to come up with different strategies to sustain our event business.
The Physical crisis might end in a few weeks; thanks to our hardworking folks in the health care segment like doctors, nurses working round the clock. But, what about the financial crisis which is awaiting to eat our economy with its mouth wide open?
We must act now before its too late. Because “When the going gets tough, the tough get going !”
Follow these steps to avoid the impact of corona crisis on your event(s):
1.Safety of the attendees-
It’s very unlikely that you are still hosting an event after the lockdown is announced in many parts of the country or even globally. But, If you already have an event going on before the orders to close down the event.
-Make sure the attendees are safe by providing them with safety kits- sanitizers, masks, etc.
-Immediately vacate the venue and arrange for safe travel for attendees.
-If possible set up quarantine facilities near the venue and provide them with all the essential items.
2. Make a crisis response team–
Setting up a crisis response team will help you control the current situation and its impact on your event business. Include seasoned members from various teams to exclusively focus on the emergent situation.
3. Inform the attendees–
Its organizer’s responsibility to officially announce and inform all registered attendees by sending emails and posting on social media regarding the cancellation/postponing of the event. Keep them updated about the probable rescheduling of the event at the earliest.
4. Refund on time-
It is the responsibility of an event organizer to refund the ticket amount to the attendees in accordance with your refund policy. This will help solidify the mutual trust.
5. Provide Information on the crisis –
The right message at the right time and through proper channels is crucial at this moment. We all share the common responsibility of fighting this pandemic. Institutions like the WHO and the respective local administration are doing the job to inform the public about COVID-19 and safety measures to follow. Direct the attendees to these platforms or you can provide information right on your website.
6. Maintain Cash flows-
Maintaining regular cash flow is vital for any business in these uncertain times. It is an obvious fact that you can no longer organize events in this period (only physical). Cut down your operational costs and marketing budget and move that to activities that can help sustain your business in the long run.
7. Encourage your employees to work from home–
Cancellation/Postponement of events does not mean you have to stop all of your business activities. Define tasks that can be done remotely or working from home.
8. Plan for the future-
Use this lockdown period wisely and instead of cribbing over the situation, make strategies for future events that are to be organized. Think about how efficiently you can serve your customers/attendees, any major business decisions such as product enhancement can be brainstormed in this period.
9. Build brand awareness–
Be creative and utilize this time, create content to increase your brand awareness. Update your customers and engage with potential prospects, so that they will remember you after the crisis has passed and things become normal again.
