ITANAGAR, May 28: A high-level consultative meeting on Indigenous Tribal Rights, Inner Line Permit (ILP) and APST matters was held yesterday under the chairmanship of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Itanagar.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Home Minister Mama Natung, along with representatives from student bodies, civil society organisations, legal experts, political parties and community-based organisations (CBOs).
The intensive consultation focused on issues concerning Indigenous Tribal Rights, strengthening of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, and matters related to APST protection in the state. The discussion is being seen as one of the most comprehensive dialogues held in recent times on safeguarding the rights and identity of indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh.
During the meeting, the government reportedly took an in-principle decision to move towards the creation of a separate dedicated ILP Department to further strengthen the implementation and monitoring of the ILP framework in the state.
It was also decided that a high-level follow-up meeting would be convened on May 29 with delegations from AITF, AAPSU, ST Bachao Andolan Committee and legal experts to chalk out a roadmap on the issues discussed during the consultation.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister reiterated that protecting the identity, rights and future of indigenous Arunachalis remains a top priority of the state government. He assured that the government remains committed to listening to the concerns raised by youth organisations and stakeholders and will continue working towards safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities.
