Industrial Visit: Choithram School Innovation Council at Shakti Pumps India Ltd.
On 12th July 2025, members of the School Innovation Council visited Shakti Pumps India Ltd. In Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, with the aim of enriching their understanding of innovation and industrial processes. This visit provided a practical learning experience of witnessing the transformation of basic raw materials into technologically advanced, packaged products. It offered valuable insights into product development, sustainable manufacturing, and the integration of cutting-edge technology into industrial operations.
Shakti Pumps India Ltd, renowned as a pioneer in stainless steel submersible pumps, has significantly expanded its product range to include surface pumps, solar pumps, motors, and various types of pipes. During the visit, members of the School Innovation Council were introduced to key evaluation parameters for pump systems such as depth level, bore size, and discharge capacity—crucial factors for performance assessment. Solar pumps emerged as a central focus, accounting for over 60% of the company’s total sales. Students gained technical insights into the pump’s major components including solar modules, batteries, and drives (VED), learning how each element contributes to sustainable functionality.
The walkthrough of the manufacturing facility offered members hands-on exposure to the complete production process, with dedicated blocks for each operational phase. From hydraulic press machines and fabricated sheets to complex assemblies involving shafts, rotors, stators, and impellers, the experience emphasized the precision and engineering behind each product. Members also explored the role of inverters and VED systems in pump functionality. Discussions extended to the company alignment with government schemes like PM-KUSUM Yojana and its innovation legacy reflected in 14 granted and 22 pending patents. Notably, Shakti Pumps’ consistent financial success since 2014—even throughout the pandemic—and its transformation from a small unit in 1982 to one of India’s largest pump exporters, left a lasting impression.
