|| The safe release of the 14 Kuki-Zo hostages by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) is a deeply commendable act. By choosing a path of restraint during a highly sensitive crisis, both organizations demonstrated remarkable leadership and a clear commitment to saving human lives.
Working closely with local elders, church leaders, and district officials to ensure the safe return of these individuals showed great responsibility. This crucial decision brings immense relief to 14 families and plays a vital role in preventing further escalation between the communities.

|| Fourteen Kuki hostages who had been held in Senapati District were released following days of captivity.
The release comes against the backdrop of an earlier incident in Ukhrul District, where 18 Tangkhul hostages were released by Kuki groups. However, despite their release, two of those Kuki individuals hostages were subsequently killed, an incident that sparked concern and criticism.
The release of the 14 Kuki hostages has been welcomed by many as a step toward de-escalation. At the same time, questions remain over the circumstances surrounding the earlier killings in Ukhrul and the broader pattern of hostage-taking and violence in the region.
According to reports, the 14 Kuki hostages had been held under the custody of the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and associated groups before being released. Community leaders and civil society organizations have called for an end to hostage-taking, protection of civilians, and efforts to restore peace and trust among communities.
|| HOSTAGE CRISIS: RESCUE ATTEMPT FAILS AMID GROWING QUESTIONS
Late last midnight, Manipur Police and Central security forces reportedly attempted to rescue the 14 Kuki hostages. However, according to reports, members of the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) and Naga Village Guards allegedly paraded the hostages in front of the security personnel before relocating them to another location. The forces reportedly did not intervene and withdrew after being warned of violence if they remained or returned.
The incident has highlighted apparent differences within Naga civil society. While the United Naga Council (UNC) has reportedly called for the safe release of the hostages, SDSA has been accused of taking a more hardline position and of aligning itself with Meitei political interests.
Questions are now being raised over whether the continued detention of the hostages is intended to provoke a wider confrontation between the Kuki community and NSCN-IM. Such a conflict would primarily weaken NSCN-IM while drawing the Kuki community into a larger struggle. The UNC's reported call for the hostages' release appears to reflect concerns that further escalation would be detrimental to regional stability and inter-community relations.
The claims and circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to independent verification.

|| DOCUMENT SURFACES FROM SHANGSHAK KHULLEN
A handwritten note purportedly issued by the Headman of Shangshak Khullen Village has surfaced online, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the Assam Rifles over an alleged "breach of promises."
The note states that Assam Rifles personnel would no longer be allowed to use the village's water resources, while also making the unusual remark that they would not be allowed to "breathe our oxygen."
The authenticity, context, and official status of the document remain unverified. Further clarification from the village authority and concerned stakeholders is awaited.

04/KIM/PR/25-43: We deeply condole the tragic killing of Mr. Chunjanglung Panmei and extend our sincere condolences to his grieving family. No family should ever have to bear such a loss.
However, we strongly condemn the highly irresponsible and biased reporting by Northeast Live. In their news flash, the channel hastily alleged the involvement of “Kuki militants” without any evidence, proof, or verification.
The incident took place in Pongringlon — an area with no Kuki settlement and absolutely no Kuki presence. To drag an entire community into the narrative with zero substantiation is not journalism — it is dangerous ethnic labelling and hate-mongering that only worsens divisions in Manipur.
Northeast Live has made this a repeated habit: name-calling and community shaming without facts. Such reckless reporting is unacceptable and damages the credibility of the media as a whole.
While we urge the authorities to immediately investigate this killing with fairness and transparency, we also demand that all crimes in Manipur since 2023 be thoroughly probed and justice delivered to every victim — irrespective of ethnicity or community.
Selective justice and selective journalism will only deepen the wounds. Manipur needs truth and accountability, not propaganda.

|| ZUF-K REPORTS KILLING OF ALLEGED NSCN-IM INFORMER IN KANGPOKPI DISTRICT
One alleged informer of NSCN-IM was reportedly killed at Pongringlong (Charoipandongba) in Kangpokpi District by ZUF-K. According to the statement, the individual was accused of working against the interests of the Zeliangrong-Inpui people and of providing information to the Tangkhul-led NSCN-IM.
The group further claimed that the individual had been warned on multiple occasions but allegedly continued his activities. ZUF-K stated that, at a time when the Zeliangrong-Inpui movement is gaining momentum, it would not tolerate actions perceived as being against the collective interests of the Zeliangrong-Inpui community.

|| Tensions escalated at New Heaven in Ukhrul district after a confrontation broke out between Assam Rifles personnel and civilians associated with the Katho Katamnao Long (Katho Students' Union), Katho Long, and the Katho Women Coordination Committee (KWCC). The clash came amid growing opposition to the Assam Rifles outpost in the area, which local organizations had been demanding be removed.
Images circulating from the scene showed an Assam Rifles vehicle overturned in a pond and intense clashes between civilians and security personnel. Among those reportedly injured was Katho Katamnao Long President Mathotmi Kasar, who had been leading the campaign against the outpost. The incident has further heightened tensions in the district, with differing accounts emerging regarding the sequence of events that led to the confrontation.

|| The Emergency Presidential Council meeting of the United Naga Council (UNC), held today, June 6, 2026 took strong exception to the mob attack on the UNC office and the frivolous allegations levelled against the President and the office of the Council, posted in various social medias. Such acts of intimidation and misinformation are against the spirit of democratic process and alien to the Naga culture.
The house also asserted that all processes and decisions of the United Naga Council are collective in nature, arrived through due consultations with all stakeholders. Any attempt to victimize the President or any particular leader for collective decisions is motivated and disrespectful of the traditions and working system of the organization.
The House unanimously reaffirmed its full faith and confidence in the leadership of Ng. Lorho, President, United Naga Council and his team and stands firmly behind them as they continue to lead the Naga people forward.

|| The Kuki National Front has taken serious note of the persistent allegations and deliberate attempts to falsely implicate the organisation in the attack of Loiboi Kholen Village where three Kuki Zo innocent civilians were killed and houses burnt to ashes in Kangpokpi district on 5th June 2026. The organisation expressed our deepest condolence to the bereaved family.
It is to state in the strongest terms that the organisation has absolutely no involvement in the recent incidents of attacks on villages and civilians. Any attempt to portray KNF to be involved in confrontations against our own people or armed group is not only false and malicious but also a calculated effort to mislead the public and distort the facts on the ground.
The continued propagation of such unfounded allegations, without evidence or verification, reflects a disturbing disregard for truth and responsibility. These reckless accusations are an insult not only to the intelligence and discernment of the public but also to the Government of Manipur and security agencies. Repeating falsehoods does not transform them into facts.
KNF strongly condemns the irresponsible practice of exploiting tragic incidents involving loss of life, injury, and destruction of property for political gain, propaganda, or the pursuit of narrow interests. As a signatory of the Suspension of Operations Agreement, our cadres stay at the designated camp and the ground rules are strictly adhered to. It is unfortunate that there are few individuals and groups who have been constantly trying to malign the image of KNF. At a time when the affected community deserves justice and healing, the deliberate circulation of unverified information only serves to obstruct genuine efforts to establish accountability.
The organisation urges all concern including Civil Society Organisations, Politicians and Media Platforms to exercise restraint by refraining from making speculative statements or disseminating unsubstantiated claims. Public discourse surrounding matters of security and human lives must be guided by facts, evidence and integrity rather than rumour, conjecture or political expediency. Equally important is the need to counter and expose the deliberate spread of misinformation which poses a serious threat to peace, stability, and public confidence.
The organisation reiterates that it will never be a party to any action that targets innocent civilians or undermine fundamental human rights. We remain committed to pursuing peace, justice and communal harmony. We will continue to reject any attempt to falsely associate the organisation with such terror acts it neither condones nor participates in. The constant attack on Kuki Zo villages, killing of innocent villagers and arson should be immediately stopped by the perpetrators of the crime and the people who have engineered the current unrest.

|| Kuki Inpi Manipur categorically rejects the NSCN-IM's rebuttal as an exercise in denial and evasion. Our statement dated 5th June 2026 is not "fabrication", "misinformation", or an "opportunistic exploitation of human tragedy". It is a factual record of documented collusion between NSCN-IM elements and Meitei radical groups, including arms supply, safe havens, and direct participation in attacks on Kuki villages-supported by survivor testimonies and ground evidence.
Kuki Inpi respects the right of any people, including the Nagas, to pursue genuine self-determination through honourable and legitimate means. However, we will not tolerate any campaign conducted in the name of self-determination that results in the systematic killing, displacement, and suffering of the Kuki people.
While we value historical neighbourly ties with the Naga people, the recent conduct of NSCN-IM, particularly its Manipur factions, has rendered continued tolerance impossible. Senior NSCN-IM leaders, including VS Atem, have publicly used genocidal language, describing Kukis as "cockroaches" to be exterminated. Such rhetoric has no place in any responsible movement claiming revolutionary credentials.
NSCN-IM's actions—including collusion with Meitei radical groups, disruption of the Kuki struggle for justice, and targeted violence—reveal an agenda that goes far beyond self-determination. We call upon the NSCN-IM to immediately cease these activities and refrain from further incitement.
The Kuki people remain committed to peace with honour, but we will resolutely defend our lives, lands, and dignity.
