Padma Shri Ratan Thiyam (b. 20 Jan 1948) has moved on to another realm in the wee hours of this day and Manipur woke up to this tragic news. A mammoth loss.

"Real art attacks the wrong system", and he attacked the broken system of our society with a spiritual longing. To a region that has been broken and beaten multiple times, he sowed the seeds for the younger generation to enlarge the canvas of their dreams.

Oja Ratan bowed for the last time today, silently. But the silence is deafening.

This loss is personal.

The earth grows dim tonight, and the sky shines bright.

We pay our respect to you, Oja.
Rest in power.
