It was founded in 1997 by R. Rangarajan and Sagunthala Rangarajan.

Veltech Dr.RR & Dr.SR University (Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, commonly referred to as Vel Tech University), is an Indian institute of higher education located in Avadi, Chennai. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering and technology in addition to a Master of Business Administration.
