Khagemba (1597-1652) ascended to the throne of Manipur in the year 1597 CE at the age of 24. He made Keibung as his palace and ruled upto 1652 CE. King Khagemba made shrines of Lainingthou Sanamahi and Imoinu Ima Ahongbi at Keibung and still worship at this site. Khagemba was not only a great warrior but was also an able administrator. This site is protected under the "MANIPUR ANCIENT AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND REMAINS ACT, 1976 VIDE GOVT. ORRDER NO. 5/3/2000 - S(AC) DATES 9th JULY, 2002". No one is allowed to destroy, remove, injure, alter, deface and misuse this protected site. Violation of this order is punishable under law.
