I have been reading some of the recent statements made by representatives of the Government of the USA, and they come across as deeply disrespectful toward India. A nation that prides itself on being the oldest democracy should know better than to undermine the largest democracy in the world.

I respect the United States and acknowledge its status as a global superpower. But such a position was not achieved in isolation—it was built on alliances rooted in mutual benefit, trust, and, above all, respect. Diplomacy is never black or white; it exists in shades of gray. India understands this well. However, attempts to bully us through statements that hurt our sovereignty and self-respect will not be entertained.

India is not just the largest democracy—it is also the oldest living civilization. We are not perfect, but our contribution to the collective conscience of the world, and to the preservation of peace and security, is undeniable.

The American government should also reflect on the burdens its allies continue to bear due to its policies and strategic decisions. We are paying significantly higher prices for oil and gas as a consequence of sanctions and geopolitical maneuvering. At the same time, when our enemies take innocent lives, there are instances where those very forces receive funding or arms support. This contradiction is difficult to ignore—it feels like blatant hypocrisy.

Many promises have turned out to be little more than sugarcoated assurances, and in the process, credibility as a reliable protector of allies has eroded.

The world has endured wars, conflicts, and unimaginable suffering—yet it continues to heal. That is its strength.

But in all this, one lesson stands out clearly for India and all the nations:

Be self-reliant.
Be self-protective.
Be vigilant.
