Indian team shortlisted by Google to send robot to moon

An Indian startup - TeamIndus got shortlisted by Google in Google Lunar XPRIZE COMPETITION making it to the top three globally. To win $30 million, the privately funded shortlisted teams have to place a robot successfully on the moon's surface that explores at least 500 metres and transmits HD video and images back to earth.

If won, the spacecraft making startup will become the first privately-funded entity to make a lunar landing. Over 85 engineers, including 15 former ISRO scientists, are helping TeamIndus in terms of design and development from its headquarters in Bangalore.The startup's spacecraft will be housed inside the nosecone of a ISRO’s PSLV and to be launched from Sriharikota in late 2017.

Reliance Jio will transform India into the lowest-price data market in the world - Says Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani today announced a ‘free welcome offer’ for Jio customers from September 5 till December 31. It offers data services free for four months, after which it will offer 10 tariff plans starting at Rs 19 a day for occasional users, Rs 149 a month for low data users and Rs 4,999 a month for heavy data users. After December, all ‘Jio’ customers will get all domestic voice calls, including roaming for free.
The company also announced “super-affordable” handsets under the LYF brand starting Rs 2999.

Facebook says it will show ads even if user has ad blocker installed

It has been estimated that over 200 million people use ad-blockers on desktop computers. Not all the users use them to avoid ads instead use them to avoid the tracking that websites conduct through cookies and scripts.
Facebook says that when it detects an ad-blocker on a computer it will ignore that and continue to serve advertisement after bypassing the blocks. However, it also announced that it will give its users more control on what kind of advertisements they see. Also, the move to target the ad-blockers is only aimed at the desktops. The strategy will not be used on mobile web browsers, at least for now.
Note: Google, another that makes most of its money through advertisements, has also tacitly tries to discourage people from using ad-blockers.

Orkut Buyukkokten creater of Orkut launches new social network ‘Hello’

Orkut, the social networking service Google launched back in 2004, was a huge hit in Brazil, India and a few other countries and had become a community for over 300 million people. On September 30, 2014, it was decided by google to officially shut down Orkut.

Orkut buyyukkokten however did not give up and launched a new social network called ‘Hello’. He wrote a message on orkut.com welcoming people to use hello.com in English, Turkish, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Here is what he says on hello application –
“hello is the first social network built on loves, not likes. I designed hello to help you connect with people who share your passions.
hello connects us all. Think about it: you can say "hello" in any language and people will understand. "Hello" is probably the most widely spoken word in the world after "Okay." Aló, halo, ʾāllo, alô, hallo, alló, hello. Fear and hatred have no place when you make such a simple and friendly gesture to someone else. So come join me, and make some new friends. Say hello, and love your world.”
As of now, hello.com appears to exist as an app for Apple and Android users, but it's unavailable in India.

The site was created by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the father of the World Wide Web (WWW), and was dedicated to information on the World Wide Web project.

The website, which ran on a NeXT computer at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), can still be visited today, more than two decades after its creation.
