Severe Waterlogging on Nayani Narasimha Reddy Steel Bridge Exposes Drainage Lapses
Hyderabad, June 9: Heavy rainfall on Tuesday exposed serious drainage issues on the Nayani Narasimha Reddy Steel Bridge, as large volumes of water accumulated on the flyover, leaving commuters struggling to pass through the stretch.
Videos from the spot showed rainwater stagnating across portions of the bridge, raising concerns over commuter safety. In a striking scene, a passing bus displaced the accumulated water, causing it to gush over the sides of the flyover and fall onto the road below.
Motorists and local residents alleged that the bridge lacks an effective drainage system, resulting in waterlogging even after a relatively short spell of rain. Commuters questioned how a major urban flyover could witness such severe water accumulation, warning that the situation could lead to accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and traffic disruptions.
The incident has sparked criticism of the maintenance and stormwater management arrangements on the bridge. Residents demanded immediate intervention by civic authorities to identify the cause of the water stagnation and ensure proper drainage facilities are put in place before the monsoon intensifies.
The waterlogging once again highlighted the recurring issue of inadequate rainwater drainage on key city roads and flyovers, despite repeated assurances of monsoon preparedness by the authorities.
