Tor browser
The TOR (the onion routing) browser is a web browser designed for anonymous web surfing and protection against traffic analysis. Although Tor is often associated with the darknet and criminal activity, the browser is often used for legitimate reasons by law enforcement officials, reporters, activists, whistle blowers and ordinary security-conscious individuals.
TOR was originally developed by and for the United States Navy to protect sensitive U.S. government communications. While Tor continues to be used by government, it is now an open source, multi-platform browser that is available to the public. The browser uses exit relays and encrypted tunnels to hide user traffic within the network, but leaves the end points more easily observable and has no effect beyond the boundaries of the network.
TOR is more secure than most commonly-used browsers, but it is not impervious to attack. Malware, such as the Chewbacca Trojan, has successfully targeted the TOR network and browser. The FBI has also breached TOR security, in one case, for example tracking threats associated with a bomb hoax at Harvard across the network.
WORD OF THE DAY- Agile business intelligence (BI)
Agile BI is an approach to business intelligence (BI) that incorporates Agile software development methodologies to accelerate and improve the outcomes of BI initiatives.
When an organization embraces Agile BI, it generally embeds Agile software developers in the organization's business intelligence team. As with all Agile initiatives, BI projects are broken down into a series of smaller projects that are planned for, developed, tested and rolled out on a continuous basis. This iterative development approach facilitates continuous improvement and helps an organization adapt more quickly to changing market conditions and organizational goals. Each iteration of an Agile BI project is planned and reviewed by both the software development team and the business owners who have requested work. This close collaboration between business and IT results in better communication, clearly-defined goals and end results that more accurately meet expectations.
As with any Agile initiative, Agile BI tends to reduce total cost of change (TOC) and promote a culture that values reflection, accepts change and understands how to respond flexibly to shifts in organizational value. Because BI project iterations are released on a regular basis, changes to a business intelligence dashboard or data warehouse can be made functional in a matter of weeks or months, providing business users with the information they need to make data-driven decisions much faster than could be realized with a more traditional waterfall project approach.
WORD OF THE DAY- Cognitive computing
Cognitive computing is the simulation of human thought processes in a computerized model.
Cognitive computing involves self-learning systems that use data mining, pattern recognition and natural language processing to mimic the way the human brain works. The goal of cognitive computing is to create automated IT systems that are capable of solving problems without requiring human assistance.
Cognitive computing systems use machine learning algorithms. Such systems continually acquire knowledge from the data fed into them by mining data for information. The systems refine the way they look for patterns and as well as the way they process data so they become capable of anticipating new problems and modeling possible solutions.
Cognitive computing is used in numerous artificial intelligence (AI) applications, including expert systems, natural language programming, neural networks, robotics and virtual reality. The term cognitive computing is closely associated with IBM's cognitive computer system, Watson.

Word of the Day- MBaas
mobile backend as a service (MBaaS)
Mobile backend as a service (MBaaS) is a cloud computing architecture that provides mobile applications with access to the servers, storage, databases and other resources they need to run.
An alternative to mobile middleware, a BaaS approach uses unified application programming interfaces (APIs) and software developer's kits (SDKs) to connect mobile apps to backend resources in the cloud. MBaaS can also be used to federate backend services and provide common backend features such as push notifications, social networking integration and location services. This is a departure from typical mobile application development, which requires developers to incorporate the APIs of each backend service individually.
MBaaS empowers mobile developers by completely abstracting the server-side infrastructure. Developers can assemble the required building blocks and just write the code that connects them. This lets developers focus on delivering rich user experiences instead of dealing with mundane backend infrastructure.
