Stargazing at 14,000 Feet
Sharing some night sky photographs I captured last month during the Annual Star Party at Hanle Dark Sky Reserve, Hanle, Ladakh. Set at an altitude of 14,000 feet, the star party brought together Amateur Astronomers, Astrophotographers, and Astronomy Enthusiasts who camped under the stars for four unforgettable nights, witnessing and capturing the pristine beauty of the cosmos. The Hanle Dark Sky Reserve is dedicated to protecting the night sky from light pollution, preserving these dark skies for scientific research, and empowering local communities through astrotourism. This initiative celebrates the magic of the night sky while safeguarding it for future generations.
These photos were taken at the 2024 Star Party at Hanle Dark Sky Reserve, a collaborative effort by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, the UT Ladakh administration, LAHDC Leh, and local communities, all working together to preserve Hanle’s exceptional night skies.

It's always fun to watch these Emperor Penguin chicks running around and curiously exploring their surroundings, at the rookery. Some get adventures and leave the group to venture alone, which they then sometimes become easy prey for predatory Skua birds.
Location: Larsemann Hills, Antarctica
# exploration
There is something profound about the sound of the ocean wave. It has that soothing effect that one needs from time to time.
For the first time, I tried to capture a wave in motion, after several failed attempts, experimenting and tasting the saltwater enough, managed to get some shots. It was fun to capture a seaw**d swimming along with the currents, it's only when I got home and saw the footage, noticed a small fish taking refuge in w**d.

ANTARCTIC FIELD WORK
Field work in Antarctica can be fun sometimes (actually most of the time). Here, a team member finds himself trapped in snow as he tried to walk over it. He did struggle a bit and had to be pulled out, not until he gave us a good chance to laugh in that freezing cold conditions. 😂😊😊
PENGUINS OF ANTARCTICA 🐧
Watching Penguins in their habitat is probably the most amazing thing I have ever done. While on an expedition to Antarctica, I got a chance to visit one of the Emperor penguin rookery and document them. Penguins are the most commonly found birds in the Antarctic. Of the 17 different species of Penguins, only two species make Antarctica as their true home, the Emperor and the Adélie Penguins. Living in colonies with populations sometimes exceeding in 1000’s, these penguins are truly adapted to surviving in the harshest of conditions in Antarctica.
A new Website is being developed and shall soon been updated. stay tuned till then !!!
