A tourist's claim of being charged Rs 800 for a four-km taxi ride has triggered fresh debate over Goa's transport system. The complaint, shared on Reddit, alleged that local taxi operators demanded the high fare for a short journey, while app-based alternatives such as Goa Miles were reportedly unavailable or unreliable. The incident has reignited long-standing concerns from visitors about taxi pricing and the lack of convenient transport options in Goa.

After inaugurating the restored Sankhali Fort, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the Portuguese did not rule the entirety of Goa for 450 years as commonly believed. He stated that their control over the entire territory lasted only around 150 years. He said the Portuguese entered Sankhali only after 1750, while the region was previously ruled by the Marathas and the Sawant Bhosale dynasty, emphasizing that these observations are based on documented historical records.
