What is a CMOS battery & what it does ?

CMOS stands for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. It provides power to the CMOS chip. CMOS chip contains information about system configuration like HDD type, FDD type, date & time, boot device priority i.e the order computer will look for at the time of booting etc. CMOS battery allows CMOS chip to preserve these settings even if the power is off. That is why our system time is once set always updated.

The CMOS battery model is CR2032 & its capacity is 3.3 volts.

Why we need to do FORMAT ?

If OS is corrupted i.e if some files are missing due to illegal operation, bad sector, viruses than in order to load the OS newly for neat & clean operation we need to format our HDD.

But before fomat we must try to repair by using repair console if possible else format it. But never forget to back up data.

It is of 2 types:
(i) Low Level : Done in factory
(ii) High Level : Done by users
