Manifesting in Continuum, an ongoing exhibition by Kaimurai that explores the fluid intersections of memory, materiality, and becoming. Through a nuanced visual language, the works engage with processes of transformation, tracing how forms emerge, dissolve, and reconfigure across time.

Rather than offering fixed narratives, the exhibition invites viewers to inhabit a space of continual unfolding—where presence and absence, permanence and impermanence, coexist in dynamic relation. Manifesting in Continuum reflects on continuity not as stasis, but as an active process of negotiation, adaptation, and renewal.

Chathuri Nissansala is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sri Lanka. Chathuri is a recipient of the Commonwealth Scholarship for the South East Asian region by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, and she holds a master's degree in Visual Arts from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Chathuri works with performance art, painting, sculpture, and graphics, and her works raise poignant questions about structures of gender, q***rness, and nationalism in Sri Lanka. Chathuri has been nominated for the Emerging Artist Award (2022-2023) by The Arts Family in London, and the 2023 Indian Art Fair invited her to represent Sri Lanka and discuss her work on q***r perspectives. She has performed and exhibited across Asia, some of these include a solo exhibition, “Ritualizing the disfigured: Memorials of healing from Sri Lanka” at Anant Art Gallery in Delhi, as part of the “Rehang” exhibition at Bikaner House in Delhi, and at the “Responses to Memory” exhibition at Gillehri Arts Initiative, among others.

Youdhisthir Maharjan works with found materials and reclaimed text, engaging in laboriously repetitive and autopoietic processes—whether that be twisting newspaper into rope, methodically erasing all but certain words or letters from a book, obscuring a text with intricate patterns, cutting and re-aligning passages to form abstract shapes or highly repetitive printmaking. The artist treats books as readymade materials, where the author’s name, text, story, and information are irrelevant. The results are sculptural objects freed from the signifying purpose of words. Maharajan insists he doesn’t know the visual outcome of a page when he begins his process. “After a visit to numerous thrift stores, and sifting through a number of books, I pick them according to their title. That inspires the pattern, design, illustration, and the aesthetics. Then some pages speak to me, and some don’t,” he explains. His is an inquiry at the intersection of identity and anonymity, individual and collective, familiar and alien, that is invested in exploring the materiality of text.

From the ashes of a nation’s strife, Kingsley Gunatillake’s artistic imagery echoes the tale of struggle and protest, visualizing the story of people’s resilience and their desire. With the rustic, charred, and painstakingly carved pages of found books and the flatness of the canvas, Gunatillake renders a tale of pain and of hope. In a country where history bleeds, Gunatillake’s art is a call to action, a reminder of the past. That the struggle for freedom will forever endure and last. Gunatillake also draws our attention towards the in-between situation of the preparation of artwork, the elusive phase of creative thinking, where emotions are raw, a world often neglected.

Currently unfolding in Dubai, Kaimurai’s works emerge as meditative terrains of memory, rhythm, and material consciousness. Rooted in the tactile language of natural indigo and informed by the sonic structures of Carnatic music, the exhibition invites viewers into a contemplative space where gesture becomes ritual and abstraction carries emotional resonance. Moving between silence and intensity, the works reflect an intimate dialogue with landscape, architecture, and inherited cultural memory—offering not merely an exhibition, but an immersive encounter with process, devotion, and the poetics of making.

Through his artistic practice, Kaimurai acts as a collector of time, utilizing a language of fluid lines and circles to trace the movement of thoughts as they travel through metaphysical space. This practice is rooted in the spirit of Japa- a meditative repetition that rises from within. As he stains the surface, he does not merely apply pigment; he deciphers an internal vibration, translating the cadence of the soul into a tangible, rhythmic record.
