CS Conversations
DI Conversations underscores the essence of discussions as central to organised growth & development. Over the years, we have pioneered a number of FIRSTS!
TourismFirst is a thought sharing platform, in print, digital and events formats. It embraces the wider picture for tourism in the country, connecting the tourism vertical to developments in national economy, industry, society and culture at large. It underlines the fact that a wide cross section of stakeholders exist outside of hotels, airlines, and travel agents – and brings them into the larger fold of tourism. It believes that the tourism product of India, what is uniquely India, needs to be identified, nurtured, developed and promoted. It seeks to integrate this product into one seamless experience. TourismFirst believes that Tourism links people and countries of the world. It is a passport to peace, prosperity and goodwill among nations. It fosters linkages in culture including arts and cuisines, and also promotes the world of exhibitions and conferences and unique discoveries of lifestyle through events. TourismFirst brings together the concerns of airlines and airports, hotels and resorts, cities and states, countries and people – as part of the larger tourism process. It represents over 40 years of engagement of our company in this field – the publishers, Cross Section Media, have been leaders in tourism communications holding a number of firsts in the business. We started India’s first ever B2B travel mart, in 1994 and over 18 years, till 2011 we had hosted over 4500 international buyers from over 50 countries worldwide. We brought to India’s tourism industry its FIRST seminar, in 1976; the FIRST industry tabloid Travel Trends Today, in 1986; among others.

Persia, Power and Karma: Civilizations, America, and the Future of World Order
by Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, VSM (Retd)
Iran embodies one side of this dynamic: a civilization drawing upon centuries of memory to assert its autonomy. The United States represents another: a global power grappling with the responsibilities and contradictions of hegemonic leadership.
For the international community, the central lesson may lie in recognizing that sustainable order cannot be built solely through coercion or dominance. Stability ultimately requires legitimacy—an acceptance among diverse civilizations that the rules governing global interaction are fair and mutually respectful.

The Governance of Acceleration: When Progress Outruns People
by Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, VSM (Retd)
Against this backdrop, New Delhi hosted the global AI Impact Summit 2026 from 16–20 February 2026—a gathering that symbolized not just innovation, but a decisive turning point. The conversations that unfolded there were less about the distant future and more about a reality already reshaping economies, institutions, and everyday life.
The defining question before us is no longer whether artificial intelligence will advance. It is whether society can advance without leaving humanity behind.

India’s AMCA Fighter Jet: A Watershed Moment
by Air Marshal (Dr) Sanjeev Kapoor (Retd)
India’s Advanced Multirole Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme has reached a critical juncture with Tata Advanced Systems, Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Forge shortlisted to develop the nation’s fifth generation stealth fighter while Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been conspicuously left out of contention. This represents far more than a contract award; it’s a fundamental transformation in India’s defence industrial strategy and a race against time to secure air superiority in an increasingly hostile neighbourhood.

THE INDO-US TRADE DEAL: Recalibration Amidst Tariff Wars, More Transactional than Transformational
by Major General Jagatbir Singh, VSM (Retd) and Major General VK Singh, VSM (Retd)
The newly announced trade deal between the US and India promises commercial relief but more needs to be done to heal the rupture in bilateral ties. Analysts in the US pronounced the US-India deal as lacking strategic depth.
The deal is transactional, not transformational, said Danny Russel, a former senior US State Department official who served in the Obama administration. “It stabilizes the relationship, but it doesn’t rebuild strategic confidence is what he stated. He went on to state that “Trump’s approach has taught India – and many US partners – that today’s Washington is unreliable. The rational response isn’t closer alignment, it is hedging and reducing exposure to US pressure”.

Defence Budget 2026: Strategic Signals, Structural Gaps and the Quest for a Suraksh*t Bharat
by Lt Gen A B Shivane, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (RETD)
Beyond Headline Numbers: Why Suraksh*t Bharat Precedes Viksit Bharat. The aspiration of a Viksit Bharat rests squarely on the assurance of a Suraksh*t Bharat. Economic ambition, technological progress and global stature lose meaning if national security is treated as a residual priority rather than a strategic foundation. The Defence Budget 2026 offers moments of optimism, but it also exposes persistent structural limitations that could constrain India’s military preparedness in an increasingly unforgiving security environment.
India takes pride in being the world’s fastest-growing major economy and a projected five‑trillion‑dollar economy in the near future.

The US–India Trade Deal: A Strategic Pivot or Tactical Detente?
by Lt Gen A B Shivane, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (RETD)
Not every agreement marks a strategic pivot. Some exist to stabilise pressure and foster détente. The US–India trade deal announced on 3 Feb 2026 belongs in that category. Yet, in international relations, strategic space without strategic autonomy remains a pause rather than progress. Cooperation must expand options, not convert leverage into dependency.
