Labhya
Labhya is a visionary nonprofit which has pioneered the well-being movement in India.
Labhya currently impacts 2.4 million vulnerable children enabling them to tackle poverty and become effective learners through well-being programs. Co-founded by three driven learners, Labhya believes that change is within reach
Last week, we asked you a simple question: “What were you told as a child struggling to focus in class?”
And most of you answered: “Nobody really asked me.”
The truth is, for many of us growing up, the systems to support children emotionally simply did not exist in the ways they should have. At Labhya, we are working to address this gap alongside our government partners.
Today, 2.4 million children experience a daily wellbeing class, which helps them feel calm, focus and learn better.

“Children should not have to be lucky to be supported.” - Raquel Mata
Last week at the Skoll World Forum, Labhya and Fonds d'Innovation pour le Développement co-hosted a Marmalade session to share findings from the world’s largest randomized controlled trial on children’s wellbeing!
The conversation opened with an inspiring keynote by Raquel Mata from Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty Impact Fund!
Our CEO, Richa, then shared findings from the two-year RCT in public schools, which shows evidence on how wellbeing unlocks learning!
An enriching panel discussion followed, with Dr. Kevin Carney (Principal Investigator), Juliette Seban (Executive Director, FID), and Richa, thoughtfully moderated by Amina Zakhnouf. The conversation highlighted what these findings mean for policy, philanthropy, and practice.
We are deeply grateful to the FID team for being our anchor partner and graciously supporting the study from the very beginning! This study would not have been possible without your support!
A huge shoutout to Barbara, Laetitia, and Arthur from the FID team! Special thanks to Dr. Avi (Principal Investigator) who couldn’t join us in person!
Deepest gratitude to our champions and everyone in the room who continue to invest in children’s wellbeing!

What did we find from the world’s largest study on children’s wellbeing?
At the Skoll World Forum, Labhya and the Fonds d'Innovation pour le Développement will be co-hosting a Marmalade event to share these findings and reflect on what they mean for policy, philanthropy, and practice.
Over two years, in partnership with state government systems and J-PAL, this randomized controlled trial tested what happens when a daily wellbeing class is integrated into public schools.
The findings challenge a fundamental assumption:Wellbeing is not peripheral to learning. It is foundational to it.
If you are in Oxford, we would love to have you join the conversation!
Date: 23 April | 9:30–11:00 AM
Location: The Story Museum Woodshed Theatre, Oxford

How do you usually start your mornings?
In our classrooms, some mornings, our children begin their school day with mindful listening. They learn to listen, breathe, and notice the space around them.
When children feel regulated and relaxed, they are able to think and focus better. This makes learning easier.

The future of economies depends on the wellbeing of today’s children!
This was the heart of our conversation at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Our CEO, Richa Gupta, joined global mental health leaders to explore a critical question:
How can we protect and strengthen children’s mental health at scale?
If we want resilient economies and thriving societies, we must invest in the wellbeing of the children who will one day lead them!
We are grateful to The Real Summit for bringing together leaders reimagining the future of mental health innovation.

Labhya & FID - une semaine merveilleuse à Paris!
Recently, we had the privilege of spending an incredible week in Paris with our partners at the Fonds d'Innovation pour le Développement.
We began the week with a glimpse of our wellbeing classroom! For a few minutes, the entire FID team became children again with mindful reflection and shared laughter!!
Across the week, Labhya & the FID team met with global leaders and key stakeholders across multilateral organizations to share early findings from the RCT. We carried insights from our classrooms into conversations that shape global policy.
We are deeply grateful to FID for their continued partnership, for their rigour, generosity, and belief in evidence-led scale.
We return home energised and ready for what lies ahead!
P.S. Thank you to Bizyheart Studio for the beautiful clay kits we painted during the week! What a lovely reminder that sometimes the best conversations happen when your hands are covered in colours!

What happens when Social Emotional Learning is practised every day through wellbeing classes?
Through daily wellbeing classes, children learn to name their feelings and respond with awareness.
Over time, these small moments shape curious, resilient learners.
This journal offers a glimpse into our children’s lives!

Before we had words, we had cartoons!
As children, we didn’t always grow up with the tools to name our emotions or express them.
At a recent team gathering, we realised that for many of us at Labhya, cartoons were more than entertainment while growing up. They helped us slow down, feel brave and imagine freely.
Today, as adults working on children’s wellbeing, we often reflect on how early feelings of safety and belonging begin. And how important it is to create spaces where children can express themselves in ways many of us couldn’t.

Meanwhile, we would love to hear from you - what was your favourite cartoon as a child?
