The Language of Chikan Hand-carved wooden blocks are used to mark out elaborate patterns for this artistry.Awadh's royal regalia, paisleys, floral and symmetrical motifs, inspired by Persian art, define Chikankari. Chikan motifs are also linked and inspired by the Taj Mahal's floral and geometrical patterns in Pietra dura. A single motif using different type of stitch forms is worked upon by different specialists for each stitch to give the fabric a unique air, unparalleled in any other form of hand embroidery.
